Inappropriate ads (29th May 12 at 9:57pm UTC)
On my forum I'm getting ads to chat to young women from the Far East. Since the forum is used by children of all ages this is pretty close to the mark. Is there any monitoring done on these ads?

When is this chat coming back? {Sad} and a possible Shout Box integration would be nice too. Future features? I hope so! {Grin}

Re: vChat Integrated Chatroom (22nd Jul 11 at 6:44pm UTC)
Hello,

Sorry to dig this topic out, but I am wondering what is the status of this Chat?
I cant find any post related to this topic younger than I think July 2010, even I saw a post from Marc VChats Developper date April 2011.
Is this Chat tool available and where?

A chat room (or many) would be great in our forum, and would replace Skype. At the same time we would get a common tool for both features Forum and Chat.

I got lost in this chat.

But I stand by the fact that penguins are evil. Hell, I named one of the color schemes I came up with that. {Tongue Out}

If you have an AIM account or don't have one (I highly demand that you create one just for the chatroom part) and post it here so we can invite you/add you to the buddy list so when everyone is online or what not, we can get the chatroom started.

tiltheend09 is mine. so add me. {Smile}

{Tongue Out}

Well, you can just create an AIM username just to chat in there if you'd like. People don't actually think this forum service will make it. They're just haters and arrogant people. {Tongue Out}

I'm pretty sure that being around for over 2 years puts us past the "make it or not make it" stage. As far as I can tell, we've already made it. vForums has long been a self-sustaining company, and forum registrations are steady. A new forum server was purchased not long ago, proving even more that vForums is steadily growing. In just over 2 years we've managed to get over 4000 forums hosted with us, which is amazing when you look at how big the remotely hosted forum market already is, and how difficult it is to get into the market as a competitor.

vForums actually listens to what customers want, unlike other providers who'll say "No, don't request that, we're not doing it and we won't tell you why." regardless of how many people ask for it. vForums understands that the forum system is there for the users first and foremost, not for the staff. From my own observations I've found that everyone who says they don't like vForums, or think it's not good have either never tried it (and are basing their opinion on hearsay -- seems to be a popular thing to do in society), or they haven't tried it since way back in late 2007 when it was first released.

The only issue I've seen is that people already have well-established forums with other providers, and as such can't just drop everything they've built and switch, which is completely understandable. Of course, for people using self-hosted message boards, like phpBB and InvisionFree, their forums can be converted to a vForum, so they have no problem switching over. {Smile}

Yeah, that's right...
I just remembered that ProBoards had an AOL chatroom.... {Tongue Out}

If you have a AOL username, go to New Group Chat and type in:

vForums

And type anything in the invite section unless you're actually inviting someone. That is the chatroom for vForums since ProBoards has a posse of their own. {Smile}

Thats interesting because I've bene using it in - http://www.divineshadowsonline.com/private/forum/regmodv1.js which has a coding base off of the "Extra Registration Page" code, for page creation, that you wrote {Tongue Out} And the code works great {Tongue Out} I just mimicked the system and added the login check {Tongue Out} but I could of missed something, just going off of what i've seen and done in the past {Tongue Out} my js sucks, i'll stick to PHP and .NET languages XD

Where exactly? I don't see the same syntax in your code. {Smile}

Hmm ok, though I don't see why it wouldn't of worked before since i've done it that way for codes several times {Tongue Out}

get('chatbox','id').innerHTML;

Would do nothing, you haven't told it what to do with the innerHTML

Re: Hide chat box from guests (18th Apr 10 at 8:06pm UTC)
That is rather simple:

Global (If you want it to show on every page) or Main (if you only want it to show on the main page) Header:

Code:

  1. <script type="text/javascript">
  2. if(vf_username != "guest"){
  3. get('chatbox','id').style.display = '';
  4. }
  5. </script>

Put this in the header/footer where ever you want it to appear:
Code:

  1. <div id="chatbox" style="display:none">
  2. *Chat Box Code here*
  3. </div>

Just got to edit where it says *Chat Box Code here* with the code for your chat box.

This will go a check to make sure the user is actually logged in. There is NO restriction based on the type of chatbox it is outside of their own ToS {Tongue Out}

Edit: Make sure you place the first part at the very bottom of your footer. {Smile}

Hide chat box from guests (18th Apr 10 at 5:51pm UTC)
Resolved
I tried with the code I know from another forum

<span id="hidden_content" style="display: none;">Code for Chat Box here</span>

But then it dissapears all together even when I'm logged in. Is there another code that can be used on vforums? Or am I doing something wrong.

This may sound like a weird question, but why did you assign chat as a board and not an action to begin with? Or did it just get mixed up or something?

That's what caused me some issues - trying to work out why this was happening. 'chat' is assigned as an action.

The problem was that there was (is) a folder in the root directory called 'chat', so going to /chat loaded the .htaccess file in that directory rather than the one in the root directory. So it was never reaching the main forum processing scripts.
