So, who besides me is going to test it out? Are you happy that Google is stepping in the browser market?

Google is well-known for their standards compliance; I don't think it will cause many issues.

Yeah, I notice Google does have all cross browser non issue. with allot of things. I have to wait an hour and a half before it comes available for the beta version to be downloaded. I just hope my sites are going to work. I have seen the screen shots Google had released, it looks nice. They said that the browser is going to be simple and clean. The color is blue, But I think its because it was used with Windows Vista Basic. Which I think is blue.

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Ross (admin) on 2nd Sep 08 at 8:54pm
I've just downloaded it {Shocked}

I'm not sure if I like the layout of everything, it might just take a little getting used to. But so far I'm loving the speed increase for handling javascript. This support forum is loading a lot quicker when using the slip.wr.blu skin {Cheesy}

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 2nd Sep 08 at 9:06pm
I downloaded it too. Its fast well some what faster then IE, FF, Opera, and Safari, it will go a bit faster later on though. The only few bugs I noticed was if you are using a laptop, and scrolling up with the touch pad you have to go to the actual scroll bar. And the custom cursor does not work in it too. {Sad} other then that it has the same look, and kinda feel as Opera does.

Google funds Opera and Mozilla, so I kind of expected that.

A few things I like is this:

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x20/magedesigns/gchrome.png

You can also expand Quick Reply Box's ^_^

It scrolls down to fast though {Unsure} and I can't use my touch pad scroller for going up. Also there is no add to dictionary {Unsure}

First impressions are quite impressive. Like Ross said, i'm not sure i'm totally blown over by the layout but its something i think i could get used to.

Solid effort, and makes life a lot easier as it'll keep to standards, and i think it'll use the same engine as another browser (Opera, i think?)

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Ross (admin) on 2nd Sep 08 at 9:49pm
It uses the same engine as safari which I think is great as it combines safaris speed & their best features (like expanding textareas) whilst also adding the missing parts like showing where a link will take you or giving you an error console.

I'm using Vista, just to use it.

That should say it all..

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 3rd Sep 08 at 4:24am
I use Vista because I love it...

I user FireFox because I love it..

I user Safari, Opera, IE and now GC, for cross-browser issues on my sites.

If GC has the same engine of Safari then it should be able to have the Custom Cursor, as FF and Opera has Issues and IE, and Safari does not. Go to my site that is in my sig in IE and Safari and you will see the Vista Aero Arrow. In FF and Opera you will see your own cursor.

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By ashkir (ashkir) on 3rd Sep 08 at 7:03pm
Holy cow. Everything loads faster and is shinier. The grads on default template here are shinier =D.

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Graham (amusedtodeath) on 3rd Sep 08 at 7:38pm
A couple of things that have been brought to my attention by a developer friend:

They have seemingly broken some webkit features (The rendering engine it uses.) CSS text shadow is no longer present, also PNG support seems poor, as does anti aliasing.

Apart from those, it's quite impressive. Wish i could expand the 'favourites' bar to a second row, that'd clinch it for me.

I can't get it to work on vista. i download it, and i click on it, and nothing happens, other times i download it, and when ive i get a box asking me if i want to run the program, i press yes, and then nothing happens. i really want to test the google browser, so if anyone knows whats going wrong can you help me out please?

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Ross (admin) on 3rd Sep 08 at 10:16pm
I was talking to a friend of mine today who's been having trouble running Google Chrome. Whenever he opened it, it would cause whatever other browser was open to crash.

@ Stormraven, have you actually managed to download and install it? I have heard reports of some downloads missing parts of the file so it might be worth trying to download it again.

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By (¯`•Stormraven•._) (stormraven) on 3rd Sep 08 at 10:34pm
Nope, I can download it, the first time i downloaded it was last night, last night i could download it and click on it, then it would bring up a box asking me if i wanted to run it, i pressed yes or run whatever the option was and thats as far as it went, nothing happened after that.

ive tryed to download it since then, im still able to download it now but when i click on it now not even the run button comes up, nothing comes up or happens anymore.

It's alright. It needs improvement however. {Unsure}

I've noticed that in the C drive on windows there is a folder called 'Chrome' inside the 'Mozilla FireFox' folder, not sure if why thats there {Confused}

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By ashkir (ashkir) on 4th Sep 08 at 1:23am
Google Chrome is working nicely on Vista as long as Firefox isn't open so far. I streamed a movie from Megavideo on Chrome, FF and IE...Chrome took five minutes, IE took forty six, FF is still loading the first part x_x.

That's not from Google Chrome, it's part of firefox {Tongue Out} . Apparently some firefox addons and features use it...

FireFTP, for example, is accessed using the "chrome://" module. {Wink}

My main issue with Google Chrome that I just stumbled across today is lack of plug-in support. I'm not sure about Flash and others, but I know for a fact that Java does not work in Google Chrome.

Use the BETA version of Java I believe 6 10 instead of 6 7

I can't even get it to work. I downloaded it onto a flash drive and put it on my laptop. I get this message:

then I get this message:

has anyone else had this? and does someone know how i can get it working, everyone keeps talking about how good google chrome is and i cant even get it working {Tongue Out}

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 22nd Sep 08 at 2:58am
Google Chrome uses an automatic installer that must be downloaded & installed on the same computer/drive. You can't put it in a flash drive then install it. {Wink}

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By richard (richard) on 25th Sep 08 at 10:53am
Its nice... I already tried it out. It also supports add-on's in the future, I believe. {Smile}

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By ashkir (ashkir) on 30th Sep 08 at 5:14pm
Google Chrome has some lockup issues but not as bad as Firefox, Netscape, Safari or IE. Nice. I don't expect Google to become a top in the browser market but their ideas are WORTH it for these other big guys to look at.

I like that:

It's easy to use/not cluttered
That it takes a snapshot of a web page when you bookmark it.

What I don't like:

It's currently slower than Firefox right now.
It has to create a new process each time you use a new tab.

Being a multi-process browser is actually considered one of its advantages. When all the different pages run in their own process, and one starts causing problems, you can easily figure out which one. You can also tell if one is hogging up a bunch of resources. And if a page does something stupid and freezes, which would normally crash the browser, or make you have to end task, on Chrome only that tab is affected, and not all your other pages as well.

Just to add to that, it's also meant to be the fastest browser currently available; and for me at least, it loads both the program itself and webpages much faster than FF, IE, and Opera.

Re: Google Chrome - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 25th Oct 08 at 4:38am
For me Chrome goes really slow. I am not sure if there are new beta's, but Fx3 Runs way much faster then the other's combined. {Tongue Out}

I got 2 GB of RAM, and 88 GB of HDD

I downloaded the newest version and this one is way faster, and also my laptops mouse works in Chrome. Meaning when I scroll up it goes up. I downloaded it the day it came out, and just did not get around to it.

I actually like it ALLOT. Just not as much as Fire Fox. {Smile}
