Not everyone wants it added, and the chances are the more that people ask for it, the less chance there is it'll be added. It's Ross' choice at the end, and his word is final.

pmwww | Re: Fame? (9th Mar 08 at 3:07pm UTC) | | Don't get me wrong, i'm happy to see this system implemented but i don't like the whole "oh, you'll have to do it anyway there's no point in denying it" attitude. It's with Ross at the end of the day and if, as he has stated there isn't a worthwhile reason for it to be implemented then it won't.

dog199200 Guest | Re: Fame? (2nd Apr 08 at 11:41pm UTC) | | ya if its not going to be implemented then can you at least make a code for it so i can convert over a few other codes that i have made that works with karma ?
|
ajay Guest | Re: Fame? (2nd Apr 08 at 11:43pm UTC) | | Aye, that could work Not the world's biggest fan of the "karma" system but it does seem to be popular.
I am not a fan of karma either. I like fame. And maybe the "exalt" could be like loser or something

dog199200 Guest | Re: Fame? (2nd Apr 08 at 11:48pm UTC) | | umm Exalt is the adding one Smite is the bad one, and i mean for karma its self is stupid, but what the karma system can be changed to is what makes it worth adding in, the karma system can added to and recoded in so many ways to make some really awesome setups for a forum. I would know i started coding for proboards through the karma system.

It would be good for an RPG. Like if there is a "presidential election" the candidate with the most Rep/Karma/Fame could win. That is what I would use it for anyways.
I do realize that it can be abused, but somehow you could make it so you (the admin of the forum) sees who smites and who they smitted. And monitor it by that, if the admin sees a problem, they could warn or do w/e.
What you could also do it add it as an additional profile option.
You could also make it so the forum admin chooses the name to call it (Karma, Rep, Fame)

pmvForum | Re: Fame? (12th Apr 08 at 3:41pm UTC) | | Ok, so it seems that it people would like it implemented with the following features:
- ability to Rename it - ability to remove 'smite' - ability to give members option to opt-in or opt-out - ability to change 'time between action'
Also having a 'karma' log. So that you can see who 'exalted'/'smited'

pmwwwmsngtalk | Re: Fame? (12th Apr 08 at 6:10pm UTC) | | Here is my whole opinion on Karma/Fame.
I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Mainly because give the admins power to edit total karma by just modifying a profile will end the idea that someone will get -20 karma or what ever. It could go either way too. If a person is attempting to get more karma for what ever reason and it's abusing the system, just reset it. If people are abusing the system negatively on another user, hand out warning, and reset it.
Reasons why it should be added..
It helps people know how reliable the person they are getting answers or replies from. It also is a sign of a good member. Someone with 10+ karma is someone who must be a good active person, and is probably nice. Someone will -2 karma is probably someone who spams, flames, etc.
I'm not to sure if this would work, but it could keep people from spamming, flaming, etc. Because who honestly would want negative karma unless it was a joke?

pmwww | Re: Fame? (24th May 08 at 5:54pm UTC) | | On this forum that I am on from PB, they use the Karma system for like Good Rper, respect, like if you respect an admin you give them karma, or if you have over 10 or 20 karma, and it makes you feel like you are respected, and thats always a good thing. Its kinda hard to explain, when you are really tired, and only had a few hours sleep. XD

pmmsn | Re: Fame? (25th May 08 at 2:30am UTC) | | I myself am not a fan of Karma or Fame or Reputation, I find it abused often and becomes the reason for many fights and arguments. That said I have seen it used sensibly and responsibly in some cases.
One place where I found it was used properly was on quite a large forum where the admin was not able to be on much. They had a very large staff support who kept it running, but when it came to seeing who was responsible and hwo was helpful among the community she would have no idea if it weren't for Karma. There was no Smite option, but the idea was you only exalted if you a) thought the member had been helpful in an issue or b) found the member to be active and involved. I can't say there wasn't popularity exalting, but on the whole the active and responsible members were the ones who had the most Karma.
I may not see it as a useful or necessary on any forum, but it can be a good feature just the same.

pmwwwskypeaimgtalk | Re: Fame? (25th May 08 at 4:06am UTC) | | I, personally, have never been a fan- I always saw it like post count. Just a way to quantize quality. But I've also never supported denying things to people who want them, just because some don't want them. So I'm in favor of choices- assuming it's not a strain on the server, or anything.
I, personally, don't see myself using it, though.
