Why run? Fight whoever's chasing you.
But yeah, it does make it a lot easier to get around; we practice on the roof of a school by my house; it's really fun.
We climb up an awning that's over the front doors, held up by two I-beams. From there we run and make a 4-foot jump to get to the lower roof portion from there. Next, we run toward the middle roof, step on the wall for extra height, grab on, and pull ourselves up. Next, we run and jump up some water pipes [Cold ones, of course. ] to get to the highest section of the roof. From here, we hang off the side of the roof, slide halfway to the ground on a pipe, jump from the pipe to a fence, then drop from the fence.
It's an extremely fun thing to do; although it does take a lot of skill and effort.

The term "safety" means a different thing in free running than in general life. How safe something is in free running depends on how good you, how well you've trained yourself for the course, and if the conditions are correct. The school's roof is about 15 feet high on the lowest part of the roof, and about 50 feet high at the highest section of the roof [which is where we slide down the pole from]. I sounds very unsafe, but in free running, it's actually not very dangerous at all.
