pm | | Re: Happy Birthday Ross (2nd Mar 10 at 11:02am EST) | | By the way, in case you were wondering exactly why we have leap years...the Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to travel around the sun, so rather than make the new year start at 6am on January 1st or whatever, it's simpler to just count 365 days as a year, and once the .25's add up to a full day, it gets put in the calendar.

from a coding perspective it's almost always easier to calculate an actual number of years (i.e. 22 rather than 3 if it was the 29th of February). But having either of them come up is still better than having a particular game system that broke because it wasn't a leap year o_O
