Life on Mars? - Posted By (¯`•Stormraven•._) (Stormraven) on 26th Jan 08 at 1:46am
Many people have wondered if there is life on mars. Is this finally proof that there is life on the red planet?
Quote:
The image was among many sent back to Earth by Spirit, Nasa's Mars explorer vehicle which landed there four years ago. Initial inspections revealed nothing unusual, but closer examination by amateur astronomers has thrown up this intriguing picture.

Do you think this is real proof or not? Others may well feel that it is simply an optical illusion caused by a landscape. What is your opinion?

Sounds like you've been on that wacky backy again ey? {Tongue Out}

It looks like it could go both ways. It looks like a rock and it does look like a life form. Its hard to say though.

I won't comment based on internet pictures, as their validity can never be fully proved. I wish I could find a way to go to space though. {Sad}

At first I thought this thread would be about the TV show {Tongue Out}

The first picture does look like a figure in the distance. But when it's zoomed in you can see that the "figure" is attached to the rock and as such is just that, a piece of rock.

So closed-minded, Ross. {Tongue Out}

Not going to back me up Ross? {Sad}

It looks too odd to be a rock

Re: Life on Mars? - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 26th Jan 08 at 6:22pm
Apart from the shape, the thing I find strange is that the figure is green, when yet the rock it's "attached" to is blue.

I just think someone photoshop that on there lol .

One thing that makes me think it's fake is that rover cameras take HUGE pictures, with AMAZING quality. If you've ever downloaded one of the actual rover images, you'll see that they're hundreds of megabytes, sometimes gigabytes in size. The picture would not be blurred upon zooming in if this was real. {Unsure}

I read somewhere that the picture they discovered it on was one of those photos - hundreads of Megs, but they can't really put that up online anywhere as people trying to download it would bust their bandwidth {Tongue Out}

It sort of looks like those guys from in star wars who wear the cloaks, rofl. I'd like to think there are martians!

NASA? Bandwidth? Funny one. {Tongue Out} They have the largest image on the internet on their site available for download; it's like 3GB in size. {Tongue Out}

But yes, I suppose they would have compressed it to make it more user-friendly.

It's also possible that the first image has already been zoomed in. Even with a high resolution there's only s far you can zoom in before it'd start to get blurry.

I think that someone got photoshop and made it there.

Re: Life on Mars? - Posted By allan (allan) on 29th Jan 08 at 4:20pm
i agree with most at a distance it could be mistaken for a person/thing. But the zoomed pic to me shows it's clearly a rock formation.

I always assumed I was from Mars. Maybe they're family!

looks like a TarTar out of Star Wars {Unsure}

It looks like it could be a life form, though it could also just be a shadow or a rock, so I don't know.

I'm open to the possibility for life forms around our solar system, but I feel that if this were actually believed to be a life form, it would have made bigger news.

I agree; sounds to me as something NASA's PR team made available just to get people talking, and get more money donated to the space programs. {Tongue Out}

Who cares now? {Tongue Out} NASA is closing down in two years.

Damn it. NASA withdrew that statement. They announced a few years ago, it hit front page news here in the US that they would close due to lack of funding in 2010. Apparently the government extended it, and a new shuttle will be launched in 2014.

I think it's just some guy sitting on a rock. But I'd be willing to go to Mars. What if they had life on mars? Like you can go inside the Planet like Earth? Because we have skies. And on Mars they had whatever Earth had in real life. That'd be so Awesome! {Grin}
