Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By ashkir (ashkir) on 30th Sep 08 at 5:24pm
Ever had one? Or a few? If so what were they? Pictures?

I met the president of the United States ((pic). The Make-A-Wish foundation (wish.org) sent me when I was eight and on a list for terminally ill children. I'm a survivor and now I look back on these events and realize some were life changing.

A few years back I got to meet the pilots of the Blue Angels and go to a private airshow. Make-A-Wish was amazingly nice as I also met three gold medalist Ice Skaters and Tiger Woods.

What was your once in a lifetime event(s)?

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Sven (sven) on 2nd Oct 08 at 7:36am
Haven't really ever had any I guess. I mean, I've had life changing events, but not once in a lifetime events.

However, I guess I did finish compulsory school which is once in a lifetime, and I'm about to complete tertiary education - again once in a lifetime. But aside from that, nothing really from me.

Well I went to a concert it was Country but at least I got to go to a concert {Tongue Out} I even got a jacket signed by the band {Smile}

MY once in a life time event was well, i had to cut apart a cat and name ever single part in its body after i ripped it out and then sow it back in and the cat back up...that was something i will never do again...it made me feel so sick.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 3rd Oct 08 at 5:35am
A Cat!!?!!

I would have Boycotted that! I would never tear open a Cat for anything.

Was this for school?

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 3rd Oct 08 at 6:07am
yes it was, but the cat was road kill...making it even worse...it was very disgusting...

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 3rd Oct 08 at 6:21am
Ok then since it was for a grade. I would have taken that 0.

I don't care about Frogs, or worms, but Cats!!?? No I would never do that.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 3rd Oct 08 at 6:40am
lol ya we cut open a worm, a pig and a starfish as well...

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Sven (sven) on 3rd Oct 08 at 12:59pm
The only di - section I've ever done is of a kidney. Learning about all it's functions, was fascinating.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 4th Oct 08 at 5:43am
ya no kidding on that one, at least i hope i never have to...ONe thing i can sasy is that i will never be a vet, i wouldnt be able to do that to animals daily, i am worry i am an animal lover...

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 4th Oct 08 at 6:15am
I am an animal lover too!

Besides for bugs, worms, and spiders. Bleh!

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Sven (sven) on 4th Oct 08 at 7:01am
Usually animal lovers become vets because they are saving animals - that's just my interpretation though lol.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 4th Oct 08 at 8:23am
Not me, I do love me Cat, but actually cutting open an animal would be hard for me to do.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 5th Oct 08 at 4:06am
ya that just depends on the person really...I would never be able to bring myself to do it, I would think of me cutting open my own animals ans would freeze up....

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Paul Shepherd (paul) on 5th Oct 08 at 5:11pm
I suppose the closest I've come was when I caught one of Nicko McBrain's drumsticks at a concert. Unfortunately it was stolen, and I doubt it'll ever happen again =P

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By ajay (ajay) on 5th Oct 08 at 7:40pm
I don't think i really have any. {Sad}

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Mason Fett™ (masonfett) on 5th Oct 08 at 11:19pm
I went to Arizona once to visit my grandma before she died with my parents. It was sad, although, it was nice to be out of the house and see a different part of the country.

I was at a Hedley concert 2 summers ago, and caught Chris Crippin's drumstick. A moment later I was tackled and the stick went flying. {Tongue Out}

Similar-ish circumstance, yeah.
It really, REALLY sucks when some guy much bigger than you's like "yeah, I caught it first", when they obviously didn't. There's only so long you can physically hold on =[

What's sad is that in my case, it was about 10 love-crazed girls set on nothing but obtaining the drumstick. {Tongue Out}

I dunno, some of the women at the concert were as scary as the men xD

Aye, same here; that's why I decided to just let go of the stick rather than die. After all, at the end of the day it's just a piece of wood. {Tongue Out}

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By tricky.cb (crazyblue) on 7th Oct 08 at 10:50am
A piece of wood a famous person used to make music.

As for me, I've had plenty of life changing experiences. I had one over the summer, I've gone to this camp every summer for 4 years, and last year I didn't really know anyone there because my friends ditched me =.= but anyways it's a Christian camp, and it was really inspiring.

No, this was a piece of wood that had been blessed by Nicko McBrain. If I still had it, I would be rich, famous, respected, good looking, etc =P

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Sven (sven) on 8th Oct 08 at 6:21am
hmm, Well, I just had one I guess. I got back from the hospital a few hours ago, I had to go in for some surgery that wasn't like emergency, but was pretty desperate.

I had some stuff wrong with my man bits (kindda disgusting lol).

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 8th Oct 08 at 4:47pm
Ahh!! I did not need to know that last bit Sven! >_< Bleh.

I sorta remember this one time. Watching 2 girls fight over a sweaty Country stars wash cloth. Ew.

{Grin} Watching the 2 girls rip each other apart. Clothes came off {Cool} EVERYTHING came off {Smile} Security came in a little later {Sad} But it was awesome to see that {Cool}

I know I will never see that again. I hardly ever go to concerts anymore. Don't have the money anymore.

The concert was at a fair, and it was cool to go because the rides are cool, and the food was good. But expensive. $17 for 18+ $10 for 5-9, 4 and under were free. and I was in the $10 category.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Paul Shepherd (paul) on 8th Oct 08 at 6:18pm
You went to a concert, and thought that a £5 entry fee was expensive? Christ >_<

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 8th Oct 08 at 9:17pm
Christ has nothing to do with that {Tongue Out}

Well I do not know what $5 is in the UK, but I did not pay for it, my grandparents did. {Tongue Out}

I am not sure what it is now. Probably more expensive, with all the gas prices, economy blah, blah.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Sven (sven) on 8th Oct 08 at 9:28pm
$5USD is about 2 pounds in the UK.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 9th Oct 08 at 3:17am
Oh ok. and what are pounds?

See I bet if I go into another country I would be so lost {Tongue Out} Like I wanna move to Japan, but I do not understand their money system {Unsure}

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 9th Oct 08 at 3:28am
Pounds are UK's version of the dollar.
Pence are UK's version of the cent.

Hey at least it was a bunch of women and not a bunch of anal retentive old men. {Tongue Out}

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Paul Shepherd (paul) on 9th Oct 08 at 5:35pm
$10 is £5 in the UK, but I've never seen concert tickets under £35 ($70), at least not for a band worth seeing.
The exception being the tickets George got me recently for Coheed & Cambria, at £20 ($40).

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 9th Oct 08 at 6:01pm
Whoa so an expensive ticket here like lets say they are $250 would be less expensive there?

The value of the money is far more important than the number itself. While yes, you're paying $250 and they're paying £125; you're both, in essence, losing the same amount of money.

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By tricky.cb (crazyblue) on 9th Oct 08 at 11:26pm

Not quite.. 5 U.S. Dollars is more like 2.9 pounds.

Exactly. I tend to halve $ for £, although that's not accurate anymore. It's more 5/3 I think than 5/2.5 now. Still, halving is generally an easy way to come up with a rough figure.

Either way, Darkmage, like Marc said, £125 is worth the same as $250.

$1 U.S. is 58.7 pence.

Yay @ Vista currency sidebar widget! {Grin}

One of mine was at a gig - Foo Fighters

I can't say i was a massive fan when i saw them - i'd heard their staple hits but not a lot else so i was wary that i'd enjoy it. The support acts gradually got better to get me in the mood - The Futureheads (rubbish), Supergrass (good) then the Foos. All i can say is: mindblowing.

I think the pinnacle came during one of their final songs, All My Life. It was really dark (gone 10pm), it was raining a fair bit but that didn't stop anyone from bouncing around like lunatics - you really got caught up in the moment, hugging and jumping about arm in arm with people you'd never even met before but you knew you were sharing an experience that was so rare and at the time, so perfect. You were tired after being on your feet for 4-5 hours but the music, the location (Wembley stadium, so huge: 85,000+) meant that the pure adrenalin kept you going right until the end - having everyone singing the chorus of My Hero on the walk to the tube afterwards was awesome too.

While they're not my favourite band, and i was rain and sweat drenched it was a time i'd love to repeat over and over - gigs just don't get any better.

And oh how I hate you =[
Was it you that I nearly bought a ticket off? I know someone at PBS offered me a Foo's ticket and I couldn't afford it at the time...

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 11th Oct 08 at 6:01am
OK speaking of ticket, music and stuff like thta, here is another one of my once and a life time events and I was really mad about this one. Two years ago I was up to a concert up in Portland Oregon, and Saliva was playing, but no instead of being able to watch them, I was back stage serving food....Man did that suck...

Re: Once in a Lifetime Events - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 11th Oct 08 at 6:34pm
At least you got back stage {Grin} But serving food why?
