Any page can only take so many nested tags, particularly images & links, before it stops displaying/functioning properly. I think one thing making it look worse than it is is the way you've used the head & base images. They should each be 3 images, one with the left hand corner, one with the right hand corner and another with the middle part. Do you need someone to cut the image up for you?
