pmwww | New members starting topics? (21st Jul 08 at 10:03pm UTC) | | Forum URL:http://freunion.vforums.co.uk Experienced By: New members/me Browser:me - FF3/new member dunno Operating System: me - FF3/new members dunno
Problem: It seems as the new members can make start topic, when I made it so they only need 1 post to become a full member.
This is what I have planned. I made it so new members had 0 posts, and have all boards non start/posted able. The only board they should be able to post in is INFO board, which then they can only post in the rules section saying that they read the rules. Then once they get 1 post, then that member will be a full member and be able to post where ever they want.
I can take a snapshot of the Posting permissions, if you would like me too. But I just don't understand.
I get members saying can we have this what can we do? and its in the rules of what they can/not do. and they are not reading it T_T
Thanks, Darkmage | |

pmwwwgtalkvForum | Re: New members starting topics? (21st Jul 08 at 10:45pm UTC) | | It would appear that it's down to the way your user ranks have been saved. The ID of each rank didn't match up to its position in the heirarchy. So although "New Member" was the lowest rank it had the highest ID. This still works fine apart from a conflict with the way the "Manage Forum Permissions" page associates each rank level with its access permission.
I've made some changes to this permissions page to fix this error and have tested it with an account with 0 posts. If you can just double check the access permissions are still all OK as I may have changed a couple while testing.

pmwww | Re: New members starting topics? (25th Jul 08 at 9:38pm UTC) | | I made a new forum and set it up the way I did at Forbidden Reunion, I did not mess anything up. And it has to be a glitch in the VF system as it does allow new members to post in the rules, but when they become a 'full member' with their 1st post made in the rules, in any of the boards do not show "New Thread" http://ultgb.vforums.co.uk
Its in Maintenance Mode because I am not ready to release it yet to the public.

pmwwwgtalkvForum | Re: New members starting topics? (25th Jul 08 at 10:11pm UTC) | | Can you confirm if this is working OK on there now? A bug was requiring the user to have 2 posts before they would have the access permissions of a full member, but that should be fixed now.

But what I don't understand is that I put it like this:
New member 0 Full Member 1 and so on so forth
so how did it think it was for 2 posts only?
XD you are so confusing me on the Admin panel.
You first had Customize Images
then now you have Modify Images
o_0 I was like what.... LOL, but now its alright ^_^ I like Modify better then Customize.

pmwwwgtalkvForum | Re: New members starting topics? (25th Jul 08 at 11:04pm UTC) | | The system which deals with access permissions was checking if the users post count (1) was greater than the posts required for the next rank (1). 1 is not greater than itself so it wouldn't progress to the next rank. The correct way for it to do it is to see if the post count is greater than or equal to the required number of posts, which is the way the mini-profile portion works out the rank to display
Some text changes are going to be rolled out over the next couple of weeks to standardise everything, particularly in the admin panel. Using the one you mentioned as an example, we had "Modify Colors" but "Customise Images", when they should use the same prefix.

VF is a UK-based forum hosting provider, thus UK spelling will be used.
But I agree, Ross needs to upgrade to Firefox.
