Messenger Information (Skype) (13th Dec 09 at 1:55am UTC)
I think the title of the thread says a lot. personally I see a lot of places adding skype to their messenger lists because its becomes a quite popular messenger, and i tihnk it make sense to add it to the list of other messengers as well.

Yeah I agree with you, we already have xFire so why not Skype? Are there any other messengers that we don't have yet?

Can't you just code it in?

I'm sure something along the lines of the <text area> code. I'll try it out and test it.

I guess you can't >_< it'll show a text area in the profile. {Tongue Out}

{Tongue Out} dude the point is that it would take more then just adding a field to the profile. You have to print out the values to match the others exactly the same to make it even seem right. Its possible its just a lot of extra coding that is just best to be part of the source.

Oh and did you ever figure out that API stuff DM? You never contacted me about that like I told you to {Tongue Out}

If someone wants to do a list of ones which are missing then I'm happy to add them in {Smile} I would just need to know:

The name of the service, eg. "Skype"
What link should be used (if one exists) to view their profile / chat with them, eg. "http://edit.yahoo.com/config/send_webmesg?.target=their-username" or "gtalk:chat?jid=their-email"

Skype is messenger only, it has o email service or web service attached to it, the profile and everything is setup within the messenger itself. So It would just be best to have their Skpye username displayed in the full profile, and when they click on the Skype icon in the mini-profile it bring up like a popup menu or something saying its username, at least something of that nature. If it helps i think Skype's website is http://www.skype.com

Is adding Myspace and Facebook I don't know how you would add the messenger links. Maybe it would be easiest just to have the links to their profiles instead, such as http://www.myspace/usernamehere or http://www.facebook.com/firstname.lastname

Another things to consider is adding an area in the admin panel where the admin can decide what messengers and networks he/she would like to have on the forum. Those that aren't checked don't show up in the modify profile, or the mini-profile, preventing the risk of the area's become cluttered

Edit: Ross if you consider adding myspace have them just put in their myspace ID wish in the url http://www.myspace/usernamehere it would be usernamehere then when the click on the myspace icon have a window come up that say send email or visit myspace page then have @myspace.com and http://www.myspace.com/ added in to everthing via coding, so that when they add in their user ID everything will point to taht idea such as usernamehere@myspace.com and http://www.myspace.com/usernamehere. I tihnk it would be rather effective to make better use of the system. But personally I think when adding to social networks like that its goes beyond the messenger and calls for a remapping of the idea of the area turning it into more social outlets instead of just messengers, and if thats the case then an addon to the admin panel would defiantly help.
