By IP address would be a bad idea. Almost everybody who uses high-speed has a dynamic IP address, so that wouldn't be a very good idea. Possibly a per-forum login for adfree?

I know that some people would most probably use it. But it has to be worked out how best to use it.
I has an idea!
In their profile, have ti so that they can enter an 'ad-free code'. It works on any forums etc... When they add it, they have ad-free on that forum. If they add it on another one, they have ad-free on that forum too...
Would be a good idea! ^_^

I thought about suggesting that, but then the code could be passed around and Ross would lose money.
Hmm, same with the password idea, though.

No, because it's a limit. Everytime it's viewed on ANY forum, it goes down by one. So more people that have it, would infact benefit Ross because it depletes quicker.

Well, I suppose you're right. If a user pays for 5,000 ad-free pageviews, then it shouldn't matter who gets those 5,000 as they're paid for already.

That's implied.
I meant a discount like we get part of the profits.

More than likely, it would probly put stress on the server and the memory to try and remember each user's IP each time.
I never have money for ad-free, so I say no.

I mean, think about it- it only brings money in, right?
I still think it's a win-win situation, and puts control (to some degree) in the hands of the user.

pmwwwgtalkvForum | Re: IP-based ad free (25th Mar 08 at 7:03pm UTC) | | It's definitely feasible to implement for those who don't want the ads there. But for the time it'd take to implement, it would need to be used by a substantial number of users.
@Wrighty for the point about the # of ad-free impressions you purchase. Every transaction (no matter who it is placed with) has a handling charge. So say (for example) we sold 500 ad-free page loads for 25p. Paypal would then charge us 20p for handling the transaction. For this reason quantities (and as such, prices) would need to be high enough so that we do get income from users using this option.
Just to get some feedback (bearing in mind this is off the top of my head and I've not done any sums to calculate costs etc.), what would £2 => 5,000 ad-free impressions sound like? Considering they could be spread across multiple forums & used across multiple months.

5000 @ £2 is fine.So long as they rollover!
