pm | Few suggestions (2nd Jan 08 at 1:05am UTC) | | Got my first forum, and love ti so far. I'd like to use fresh to describe it for some reason. Anyways, I am going to lay some ideas/suggestions on the table for ya'll tonight.
1. The "Manage ads" feature, which I love is located under the Paid Settings category. I'd add it to "Board settings" in "General settings"
2. A newsletter option would be cool. You can have it so it emails everyone on the forum, or you can input the people you want to receive it by inserting their email into a field. Sometimes, I want to email only my staff, so every time have to go through their profiles and find their emails can be annoying. So, maybe we can make "email groups" or something. Example: Staff: staf1@yahoo.com staff2@yahoo.com staff3@yahoo.com
Newsletter Committee writer1@yahoo.com writer@yahoo.com
Each group would have a check box next to them and you would select the ones you want to receive the email.
3. Spell check would be awesome. I'd make it a general setting option.
4. The general settings panel is getting kinda big, and its just going to get bigger. I would make branch off of it and Board Customization Features separate.
5. In the modify profile area, whats the difference between hiding your age and your birthday? If I know your birthday, I can easily find your age lol. Kind of the same.
6. In the banning area, I'd make "Reason" and Issues Separate fields. "Issued" meaning date. Unless, what I think you mean is Reason Issued as one word, in which that case, I'd get rid of that big space between them.
7. I'd add a merge feature. I think that would be very helpful. Though, people might say add a split feature as well. I don't think you really need that.
8. I'd like it if you could add a "Note from admin" or something like that field to the registration page. We can put our ground rules ect. So, there are no excuses if members break them on the forum. "You agreed to it when you signed up so it shouldn't have happened"
9. View by letter would be helpful in the member area.
10. When you make a sub-board, the "sub-board name" text has an off alignment.
11. Birthdays/Events I'd just decrease the width of the users online in past 24 hours box. Then, make another box on the far right and have a vertical list of the events/birthday.Maybe make this an option.
12. I like how the categories are clickable, but don't like the reason. Whats the advantage of being on a page with just those boards for that specific category? If you are going to make it clickable, I'd make it so you can hide/show it.
13. A portal page. Members can obviously choose whether or not to have it. You can allow them to fully customize it too. They should be able to choose from a blog, chat box, recent posts, forum news, ect.
14. When you quote people, have it be a link to another page. You can choose the posts you want to quote by checking a box, would be good for people who want to muli-quote posts. I still don't know how to do it. xD
15. Comment about the IC. I don't like how all the staff and members are mixed together. I think staff should be on one line, and members on another. I thought I was staff here for a second, cuz my name was parallel with "Staff members" Also, it's to close together and jumbled. I think you should make users online and events/birthdays if you add it one box, then users online in past 24 hours an additional box below that.
16. A code to prevent images stretching the papge would be cool.
17. An option to disable account activations.
18. Can we add "useful links" to the IC?
19. When you click on the most recent post on the main page, I'd have it so it takes you to the page that reply is on. NOt the first page all the time.
20. View by join date. I've always wanted that option in the members panel. You can see who the veterans are ect. Might be pointless though idk.
I hope with all these suggestions you take it as a "I think this software sux" kinda thing. I am actually very pleased with it and see voluminous potential with it. Many of the annoyances I have had with other softwares aren't present in this. I salute you vForum staff!
O, and one comment for this forum. No offense to who made it, but the banner isn't that good. Actually, it isn't bad. But, I just don't like the text. Maybe add a drop shadow, a grad to the BG too, idk.

pmvForum | Re: Few suggestions (2nd Jan 08 at 1:16am UTC) | | 1 - I agree, I don't think they are suited to their current place at all.. moving them to general settings may be good..
2 - Newsletter no... however, emailing depending on group would be awesome - Admins, Mods, Members, Banned, Warned etc..
3 - Spell check.. how many people actually use that? I don't for one, I have one built into FF that I use.
4 - It is big yes. But some of those things should be put into a "skin settings" for each skin (split cat, stickies, board width etc..) I think anyway.
5 - Here it is: If you show just birthday, and hide age: it doesn't show the year, show age, not birthday, just the age is shown. Show both, full birthday is shown & age
6 - No idea what you're talking about!
7 - Merge sounds cool!
8 - Yup... I haven't seen anything in TOS about editting that page... but I guess we could code a box (using a client side code) that shows...if it isn't added.
9 - I agree!
10 - Screenshot or link?
11 - I don't like the layout of the users today box... I don't like the layout of the IC at all actually... but meh, that's me! I reckon it needs redoing completely.
12 - I think just viewing the category isn't needed... a collapse feature would be awesome!
13 - Something like this wouldn't be released instantly... I guess it is something we could have, and would be good as a general 'roundup' of the forum!
Thanks for your suggestions!

pmvForum | Re: Few suggestions (2nd Jan 08 at 2:19am UTC) | | 14 - multi quoting is an awesome idea.. I love this idea..
15. - view my comment above
16. - Request one!
17. - Not a bad idea!
18. - already suggested... 'Admin edittable links' by kronus
19. - I don't think it always does... it's a bug... it's to do with there being one post on the 'new' page only... strange I know.
There's a skin competition. Perhaps the overall winner will be made the default?

On FF? It is automatically implemented into the software.
If you won't add it, at least make a code for it.

Server side spell checkers are laggy and near-impossible to customize (ie, add words to dictionary). Using your browsers built in spell checker or an addon spell checker is the easier solution.

It takes you to the last post you viewed. If that was on page 2 of 3, it'll take you to page 2. If you haven't viewed ethe thread at all, it'll take you to page 1. What's the point in seeing the end of a thread when you don't know what was posted at the beginning?

If you've already seen the first page then the links on the main page will take you to the second page of the thread.

I'll be adding these view options in the next update:
View by date registered, view by last activity and view by letter
Any other orders which might be needed?
