pmwww | Final Destiny: The Final Chapter (20th Oct 08 at 6:32am UTC) a Final Fantasy VII Story | | I would like to announce my newest forum. Final Destiny: The Final Chapter; a Final Fantasy VII Story Is finally open to ratings.
I already had a comment about it being to dark. I am working on making the text a bit lighter. I just got the banner, and on/off icons done. As well as trying to fix the website with its many errors.
Darkmage | |

This is because ) freewebs sucks, 2) the template sucks, and 3) there is a lot of empty data in your pages, you can combined some of those pages into the index page and make the index page informational.

pm | Re: Final Destiny: The Final Chapter (21st Oct 08 at 5:52am UTC) | | I think this is what... the 18th forum of yours I've rated? Try sticking to one in the future if you want it to be successful and all that jazz.
However, I may as well comment on it now that I've bothered to type in that little bit of it. There are several things and beside it being dark you haven't done the following things.
1) You haven't catered for all resolutions, your background is repeating on my screen.
Ok, I guess I'm just going to be blunt and say it, the skin is horrible really. The banner is very overpowering and in your face, not only that but the text is difficult to read. Coupled with the fact that you have Mage Designs plastered in the corner, who cares if Mage Designs made it, it's YOUR WEBSITE. You own Mage Designs AND FD, so why put your own copyright on the banner? That's just annoying.
The background doesn't flow at all with the rest of the skin, the on/off buttons are just downright annoying - a face isn't very interesting nor is it very pretty really.
You haven't got much idea about the colouring of your forum. Because of the dark style of your skin, it's best not to pick a bright colour as your text, makes it damn near impossible to read. You are better to pick a desaturated text colour, or to pick a lighter BG - your choice, but open up PS and have a play around with the colours.
You have no menu buttons at all
The bottom of the forum is incredibly messy and disorganized, you should fix this up.
IMO, while you have a good bit of content, theres at least one post in every board so far (might wanna increase that a bit), the skin really lets this forum down. While I didn't really check out the content, I wouldn't WANT to look at the content if that skin was all I had to look at, I would want something softer on the eyes tbh.

If I did not have it repeat then how is 1 small little line supposed to cover the whole screen? http://fdestiny.webs.com/bg.gif Yes I will have to resize it to 1x1280, I notice this in the very long posts.
I do get tired of saying this. People have stolen my work, of course I have to put Mage Designs on it. 6 years ago. Final Fantasy Nation My Oldest and longest lasting forum was being threatened of being deleted. Because someone stole my stuff, my posts, everything. Banners, wallpapers, on/off. The whole works. This was on PB of course. So the age of the forums were the vital clue to who was steeling. Thus 3 years later I created Mage Designs. I used to put (C)Darkmage. But there are several Darkmage's out there so I could not trust that. So what I do now is on all my work I put (C) Mage Designs.
The background is of the site. Both look the same and thats how I am keeping it. I do have someone else wanting to design for me. So I am letting him. A picture of the characters Face of the on/off icons tell who are the main characters. Of course Sephiroth and Cloud are. So what am I supposed to put in the on/off area? blank pictures? I have had the on/off icons like that before and you said nothing of this sort. Shira Shinra (The girl in the middle of the banner) is the key ingredient to my plans of this forum. Everyone knows very little on what I am planning. I only let 1 person know more then others. Thats because she is the Main Ingredient.
Menu buttons for this skin is not needed. The new skin will have menu icons.
I don't get how the bottom of the forum is messy and disorganized. I got the Affiliation area, with the Buttons underneath it. (2 more mini banners are underway)
Well I can't help all boards having 1 post. Just opened up a few days ago, and only 2 members from my other forum joined. Like everyone says Rome was not built in a day . So it will take time to get this forum more posts.
For the skin there is always another alternate skin. vForums Default skin.
And you should have checked out the content, Maybe your words would have been different I have a Shop open, for people to buy stuff like Items, Magic, weapons etc. All members get 1,000 Gil (Money) When they join. And the shop has reasonable prices. So that's good!
Oh and have you ever put copyright on your own banner? or content? Have you ever had something that you worked very hard on when you were just learning how to do graphics? I bet you have? Doesn't it make you mad that someone steals your work that you pulled 15 hours on? I think you would be mad. Specially 6 years ago when all I had was MS Paint.
So Later on today, when I get back from the bank, and from the store, I will resize the wallpaper and get that fixed.
For right now, I think I am heading off to bed, only 2 1/2 hours of sleep can make someone go crazy.

The copyright. I don't care, look at all my work - I don't even bother with my name because I know ways to prove that the work IS mine and I AM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR. To help you remove this pestilence of a copyright, here are a few factors;
1 Keep your .psd. If your work has been stolen, the stealer cannot provide evidence of creation (the .psd file) to show how they did anything. As all they would find is a .jpg image without the .psd. This is generally enough proof for anyone.
2 Time stamps as you said worked with your last forum, as are always handy. You have the last modified option on your computer when you look right click the file and look at it's properties
3 A watermark is much nicer than a copyright image tbh. If you put a watermark on it, that's obvious - such as your name (but make it NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE) or a symbol or some form of 'signature'. If it makes you happy sign a piece of paper, scan it, then use it as a watermark on your works. That way, it's discreet and a stealer doesn't know what to look for on your watermarks, and you do - thus, you can point them out where you hid them, thus proving that you are the creator
Problem solved, remove the stupid copyright.
The on/off icons, I have never told you to leave them blank, however, there are much nicer approaches to these faces, such as putting them in an orb or rounding them up into a nice looking thing. Putting on glosses and things like that. The only problem with the on/offs is that they are square and abrupt.
Menu buttons ARE needed, don't give me crap that there is another skin, I don't care - I'm rating what I see infront of me. Here is some quick stats that I'll tell you.
Your skin is first impression and for most hardcore forum goers or even just general public, the first impression is everything. If some place looks dodgy, most won't touch it, that's what your forum looks to be at the moment.
On average, you get the most hits when your forum is new and not many people know about it and are curious as to what it is. Say you are getting 20 hits a day (not much but yea).
So thats 20 people that are seeing it everyday. They aren't going to come back if they didn't like it the first time. They won't even bother looking at the thread to see the updated version as they know what it's like the first time and cbf with the forum.
So that's 20 people, those 20 people would talk to at least 3 people about a forum in the space of a day.
So thats 20 x 3 = 60 people everyday that you are missing out on. If you continue to expand this through the WOM system that everyone on average talks to at least 3 people in the course of a day either through MSN or whatever, and they don't even mention your forum because it looked bad - your missing a lot of hits here.
The bottom has the chat box, the affiliation system - that's the clutter. If you are going to have things like, set it out nicely and organise it. make it look pretty and perfect and tie in with the rest of the forum. The way you have it placed looks like you have just dumped it there tbh.
The boards all having 1 post, again, first impressions - I don't care how long ago you just opened. People are going to see only 1 post per board. Fill it with rules, starter posts, starter threads so that you get 3 threads 12 posts or something like that. Put in How To: guides and things like that, FAQs are all brilliant methods. Put up some starter RPs and things like that. Why no go out and be the first to explore some place - idc, and idk about how RPs truly work, but thats the kind of things you better be doing. Fill it with content, your shop means nothing if no one is going adventuring for gold.
Again the alternate skin I dont care about. First impression is the DEFAULT skin that you have showing, not the vF skin.
BTW: I know what Gil is, I cried in FFX don't get me started. But as I stated above, a shop doesn't mean much if people haven't got anything to post about or to USE the items from this shop.
To answer your last question, I did used to do that. I still do it actually, if you haven't checkout PPS do so (my sig) that has a copyright plastered all over it, but you can't see it can you? Why? Cause it's sitting at the bottom of the entire thing under the Copyright, Privacy Policy and ToS. Do something like that if you are so paranoid.
To have people steal things of yours should be a compliment. A compliment to you because they love you so much that they want to be just like you. That's how I look at it, if people want to delete your stuff for it or accuse you of stealing, you have your time stamps your .psds your watermarks and whatnot to back up what you are saying. Trust me, don't bother with the copyright stamps, just watermark things - prettier and even funnier when people do steal the work as they just look like complete idiots when they get caught out.
From there, my rating stays the same 1/10 - this place has a lot of work. An entire skin redevelopment would never really go astray. Find someone that will do that for you

I can see what I can do, but it wont be sometime soon. I know that for sure.

Not for this one, this one I am not going to use them.

All I am interested in is getting most of my active members if not all members from my other forum Forbidden Reunion, as this forum is in the future of Forbidden Reunion, as in what the plot says "20 years after the Forbidden Reunion" In due time I will get outsiders to come in.
The bottom has the chat box, the affiliation system - that's the clutter. If you are going to have things like, set it out nicely and organise it. make it look pretty and perfect and tie in with the rest of the forum. The way you have it placed looks like you have just dumped it there tbh.
How would you go about this?

Already way ahead of you on rules and FAQ Those were the very first posts. Now I do have starter posts, that's what the 1 posts in the boards are I can't be the one to start an RP, not yet, I just can't. I can't go against the plot and change it. Shira has to post, then Cloud, which he should be joining up soon. After that My Character Darkmage will be posting, and my other Character Sephiroth will not/Can't post at all until it is time for him to awake after 20 years.
Again the alternate skin I dont care about. First impression is the DEFAULT skin that you have showing, not the vF skin.
I realize this.
BTW: I know what Gil is, I cried in FFX don't get me started. But as I stated above, a shop doesn't mean much if people haven't got anything to post about or to USE the items from this shop. I don't understand how everyone cries in this one? Probably at the end when you finally do beat it. But I do realize there are sad moments like Yuna sending the spirits and what not.
To answer your last question, I did used to do that. I still do it actually, if you haven't checkout PPS do so (my sig) that has a copyright plastered all over it, but you can't see it can you? Why? what is .psd? Is that Photoshop? I don't have Photoshop. The only one I have of Photoshop is 7, and its not compatible with Vista. and I can't afford CS3, the last time I saw it, it was at $450, I don't have that, I'd rather spend that kind of money on a new laptop or something. Or even a PlayStation 3 so I can play FFXIII and Versus XIII. I have Paint Shop Pro 9. and it has .psp but for some reason it will not open up in Paint Shop. As well how will I be able to prove something if I can't upload it?
From there, my rating stays the same 1/10 - this place has a lot of work. An entire skin redevelopment would never really go astray. Find someone that will do that for you
And I already have someone doing it. But this one will stay default. Unless I change the skin on the site. Which wont be sometime soon.

It's invisible unless you know it's there anyway. Like a word or a symbol that is the same colour as the background with a VERY slight outline or something like that. Something the average person won't spot.
The on/off icons. You shouldn't be paying attention to time. Most well developed forums take MONTHS to develop the skin alone. It's not about how quickly you can open up a forum - but rather, how much it was worth the 4 month wait.
If you are going to be developing a new skin, throw in some crappy menu buttons then until such time.
If you want your active members of Forbidden Reunion to join, then just send out a mass email/PM or something like that, just tell them that this is the future and they will follow if they are true followers of FR.
To go about the tidying up, well, it's more to do with designing of things - like the use of sizing and making sure that it all flows and the style doesn't change. So, the rest of the forum has gradients - but the chat box does not for instance, change in style, creates clutter.
Ok to fix your problem with beginning posts, hang your storyline. You need to re develop it - it wasn't well planned was it? Your storyline needs to be allowing versatility so that other people CAN start the story off rather than relying on a series of posts and a set script. That can be for another section, but to have the entire forum based on a script just restricts people from playing. There should be a scripted and an unscripted area of the forum where people can just RP using their characters and stuff like that.
Maybe you could set it up so that the scripted area had an increase in the characters level and abilities, however, the free RP did not. Don't rely on pre - set character names, rather, use those created by the users of the forum.
I think that would be a much better system, something I would be more inclined to join anyway. It allows for a versatile plot, something that can be changed BY the USERS and not by you.
A .psd is the file extension that Photoshop does use yes. It saves it in a layered format so that you can see a working progress and so that you can edit certain sections at your own desire.
Do you know if CS2 is compatible with Windows Vista at all? That is a lot cheaper than CS3...

Ahh ok.

I am ahead of you on that too There coming, slowly but surely coming.

I will see what I can do.

I don't really think so. anyways I do allow custom characters

Any user can make up their own plot. They did on Forbidden Reunion.

ahh ok. Paint Shop Pro 9 uses .psp

Well if Paint Shop Pro 9 (That says windows 98 on it, ) works on Vista I am sure that those 2 newer ones will as well.
edit: Uhm Ross... There is something wrong with this post?
All the quotes are in its right place.... Fixed it.
| deviant Guest | Re: Final Destiny: The Final Chapter (31st Oct 08 at 9:02pm UTC) | | I think the banner is alright. Though its inconsistent that one of the images is black and white and the other two are in color. Maybe find 2 black and white faces for more balance? Also, the text looks like it was put in to fit around the faces, which doesn't make it look good. Maybe you can put all the text at the top or bottom to avoid putting it in front of the faces. And I'd recommend keeping the text of a similar color.
I like the feature that the icons light up when you scroll over them. Just a minute detail that shows that you put effort into it. The skin is very basic overall. But if you mean to put emphasis on the subject then there's nothing wrong with that. I don't really know the role play subject, so I can't really comment on that. The only thing I would recommend about the content is that buying weapons and items for a text based RP like this is hard to keep track of that, so you should have a definite system of keeping track of weapons or bag the shop idea.
5/10. Its young, so its hard to rate, and the skin is basic. So i don't feel like there's much to rate at all

I tried to put the text at the bottom and even at the top, it did not look good at all, and the way the faces are, it just covered up their eyes or most of their faces, and if I put the text smaller then it would be hard to read.
The icons lighting up is just a transparent code, one that I created back when I was on another forum service. I actually did not put effort into it. I had to change the skin around allot to make it look right, and finally black fading was the right one that worked really well.
The shop Is allot of work. But as knowing you are new to vF you don't know much about the service as well. Only staff members are allowed to add or take money. Members may do the same, but, in order to keep from having members cheat I made it so that staff may only take or add the money. Its a feature of Virtual Forums called "Addition Profile Options" which is a handy feature to have.
Yes the forum is new, I thought of it one night. It has almost everything that my other forum have (FFVII: {Forbidden}~{Reunion}) which most of the boards were moved to their. Its 20 years after the Forbidden Reunion. (Says so in the plot that I made in like 5 minutes and all members agree that it sounds awesome)
I am still planning on add some things in, and making a new skin as well.
| deviant Guest | Re: Final Destiny: The Final Chapter (1st Nov 08 at 9:39pm UTC) | | That's fair enough. Maybe you can put the black/white face in the middle and have the woman's face on the left side instead. Balance is aesthetically pleasing, that's why I'm talking about it, really. Other than that, you seem to have things under control. I'll do some research about the coding structure of vForums so I have a better idea of what they can do. | |

If not the very right character that guy His name is Sephiroth, he is the evil character (Which I control him ) and the black and white face is Cloud, He is a good guy. They have a huge part in the actual Game and Movie. And their past is the biggest of the story.
(Hope that made sense )
Well there are good places to learn about Virtual Forums, mainly the announcements board as well in the Support board with all them Stickies.
