Simple explanation, if you look at the histories of the Europe, Britain is to blame basically, this is my personal opinion.
Britain led the way in overseas expansion, which ended up causes many of these countries to become impoverished as Britain exploited the people and just massacred them for sport. They also spread capitalism throughout the world.
We live in a capitalist society, and while, many of us do care - the average person can't do much about it simply because to survive in this crazy world we live in, we require to have money, the way the world is structured at the moment is so that all the money is sucked from us so that are unable to assist in helping these people.
Australia recently joined the $100 laptop project which is a BRILLIANT way to help get these countries out of the situation that they are in.
