Hearing for the first time. (17th Jul 08 at 5:58am UTC)
Remarkable!
I got my hearing aids today. All my life the doctors and researchers been trying ones that never worked better then my normal hearing. Always analog and digital technology was experimental. The experimental never worked. Now, years later. I can hear perfectly.

I heard the sound of real water for the first time of my life today. Listened to the cracking of a leaf crushed by a hand. To hear my own voice, my own footsteps. It's beautiful. Amazing. As soon as I got out of the office, my dad put in a CD with an orchestra and some of the songs had soft italian operas. My god, just being able to hear the soft sounds is beautiful.

I always used an amplifier to hear WoW Music; but since I have partial ear nerve damage (always have) I cannot wait to listen to the sounds in World of Warcraft, the small things I never been able to hear before. I am told that some pets make sounds when clicked on, and if ambiance is all the way up in select areas you can hear certain things (like Undercity's bell, the king, crowds, etc) I want to know if they were real now. ^_^. I'm robbing my friends over IM of their softest/quietest mp3s right now.

It is AMAZING to be able to hear things that others basically learned to ignore. Hearing the water, the sound of a leaf. It is a beautiful thing to be able to actually hair and make things out. Hearing things for the first time at nineteen years old is REMARKABLE.

I'm glad that technology is evolving to the point where it can restore hearing as well as sight. I was watching a documentary on TV not too long ago of someone who was blind from birth who had a camera wired into his mind's optical sensors that allowed him to see.

It always makes me angry at myself to know that many people live without the things I take for granted every day; I'm just glad that people are doing something about it. {Smile}

Wow, good luck with that.

Though there are things that you most likely don't want to hear. But Since you are hearing for the first time in 19 years good luck with all that. One question, how did you hear at school? are were you home schooled?

Sometimes I just want to hear nothing, because I live in a city, all I hear are cars, loud music, yelling, screaming, kids. etc T_T and I just want to move out on the country side, where its all quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, snakes, crickets, the sound of a water fountain near by. its one of my biggest dreams. and my cousin beat me too it, when he went out west to the Grand Canyon. He said that you could walk outside and hear practically nothing, your ears ring because you don't hear a thing.

So that is what I want to do. Im tired of hearing the same old babies crying, mothers yelling at one another, shootings, gang fights, I just HATE it all.

-- sorry for the rant {Wink} I feel much better now at least to a certain point.

@ Darkmage: My parents had the same dream. We bought 17 acres of land. Sure most the time all you hear are frogs, birds, and insects. But directly over the fence on one side is a train, and it's an active rail road. Not far is a busy highway, so although we're in the 'country' we still here the city life {Tongue Out}

Now on topic {Tongue Out} That is more than amazing that you can hear. It must be so cool hearing a lot of those things for the first time {Tongue Out}

In the past I had 'amps' to make things louder. For example on Ventrilo I had to move the default sound up to 800% and my amp was x3 and everyone still sounded like a whisper. I had nerve damage ever since I was little in my ears, most likely born with it.

All my life they been making things 'louder' for me to barely hear it. My parents, friends had to yell at me for I can hear things they said just barely. I actually missed about 20-40% of what they actually said. I can sleep through a fire alarm as I never heard them...I have before.

These digital ones use a electromatic wave or something to help 'makeup' for the nerve damage and they work perfectly. I turned my vent volume down to 20% (default is 100% for average person) and took out the speaker amps. Everything is loud and clear.

I'm a kid in a candy shop for the next while. =/.

Gratz, Wow music is never exciting - I turned mine off for over 2 years I never listened to WoW but rather my guild mates or something. p til 4am in the morning (more than 3 of us were drunk) trying to PvP. Especially since we were in the Bloodlust battlegroup it was basically impossible for us to be good (bloodlust is the hardest battlegroup).

I am glad you can hear again, one question though. When it gets really quiet for me my ears ring and stuff, it's like you can hear silence (if you know what I mean). Did you get that a lot or never? It's not a sound, but it's your ear drum sitting motionless, it's quite weird.

That is what I said in my first post about my cousin going out to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and he walked out side in the morning, and he said you can't here a thing besides your ear ringing.

Wow. I must say you seem like an interesting person! I met someone this past year who's had sign-language as his first language! He uses hearing aids, too. It's hard for him to hear me sometimes because I am soft-spoken. He's forgotten sign-language because he started using hearing aids when he was like 9-years-old.

I am happy for you. Thanks for sharing and congratulations! I don't know about you, but I love the sound of running water (depending where it's coming from).

Thanks Rose. :]. I actually don't know sign language any more or even how to lip synch or read lips, I lost the ability when the doctors first encouraged me to try Analog hearing aids (which worked horribly) but forced me to try and use them. Since then my speech turned into a slur, now with digital hearing aids I can hear my speech mistakes. =D.

The sound of running water, I love it. My dad took me to a waterfall in the city, I sat there for hours. It's relaxing. I cannot wait to go to the river again. I live by the Kern River...but I rather to see a natural stream or something that isn't domesticated.

God, I hate the Bloodlust battlegroup. Amazing, but I hate it for farming, etc. I went to Lakeshire on my tauren druid, and sat by the lake near Hilary, (did you know the quests the kids give horde can do them? o_o) it had very relaxing music and the sound of the water was good. Also Thunder Falls behind Westbrook Garrison was awesome. >_>. Just hated the night elf hunter there.

UD Priest
Orc Hunter

Human Mage (sadly).

However, this won't turn into a discussion of wow {Tongue Out}
