dog199200 Guest | | What Are The Odds? (28th Apr 08 at 4:49pm UTC) | | | For a while now I have been looking for s dedicated server that i can afford and cheapest i found was $30 a month with a $90 startup fee but it had really cheap quality, and i was wondering what would you say the odds would be if I asked for a big major game company to host my game if i allow it to sponsor them and i give them half the profits i make from the game each year. This has came down to my last resort for the time being until I can buy my own server. And if you think this might be doing able whom do you think might do it? I was thinking Blizzard, but i'm not sure if they would because of the setup for my game is far more advanced in graphics and game play, or so it seems from what I have played of WoW.

Just be sure you have a solid plan and some form of guarantee that they'll get their money's worth.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to be realistic; I think most game makers started out with degrees in Computer Science, focusing either in AI or graphics. I haven't seen any of your work, so perhaps you're a computer science prodigy, but otherwise, I think you're odds are 1 million to 1. I doubt Sony or Blizzard will dish out server space to a high school student to host his home-made game when they could use that server to expand PS3 online by several thousand players or WoW several hundred thousand players. I think they would turn it down especially quickly if you said you would give then half the profits as long as you host it there, as they would know that as soon as you made a little money you would high-tail it out of there and get your own server.
If you think that this has serious potential, then I think your best bet would be to form a corporation, create 100 shares of stock (or whatever you want), and sell 15 of those shares at, say, $50 a piece, and use that money to get started.

Now; for a new game, have you tried a smaller hosting, t hen working your way up from there? Dedicated servers require investments. Most gaming companies/mmos create their own "gaming company" like Stargate Worlds or Turbine did.
