I had put the sig banners on my PB account, and was told by Craig that it was disrespectful, to PB and that advertising a Rival Hosting forum service is disrespectful, and that once he sees the advertisements, of VForums or any other hosting service, that they will be asked to take it off.

Yup I got the same. You should be able to advertise your own forums though! {Smile}

Re: vForums Signatures (21st Feb 08 at 8:52pm UTC)
Here it is:

Craig:
"Not to be rude, but could you remove those links in your signature please. This isn't the place to have those links. Cheers."

Me:

"What do you mean? I thought we could advertise in our sigs?"

Craig:
"You can, within reason. But come on, have a little respect."

Me:
"Virtual Forums
VForums Advertising
Mage Designs
Final Fantasy Nation V3

these are the ones I have, which one is in disrespect? Im confused a bit here, so don't get mad at me. I am having so many problems atm, that its getting frustrating."

Craig:
"These two:

Virtual Forums
VForums Advertising

This is proboards, not virtual forums ... we are not affiliated in any way."

Me:
"VForums advertising, is for all forum providers meaning the 2 biggest forum providers, and the smallest.

PB, Invision, and VF. It be no different if I made a PB Advertising.
and also There are allot of people advertising VF in there sigs here on PB."

Craig:
"And they will be asked to remove it too. Don't you find it rude, nor disrespectful advertising another forum service in your signature ?"

Me:
"Sure, I do. But after I found PB, I advertised PB on Invision, when I used to be a member there, I always Advertised, and no one said anything about it, PB was just a small thing back then, but now look at it, its a giant thing now, and the reason why people join is advertising/word of mouth, and even to this day I advertise PB, its just my way of gratitude, but I also advertise other forum services too. and since VF is small, why not. and its not like 100,000+ members will leave PB for good, or even leave the service for that matter, I use both PB and VF, and the PB one is my most Successful forum, I ever had in 3 years now. The VF one is getting popular as it is an Experiment/replica of the PB one. and if my experiment fails, then my replica will be shut down, and it seems as it mostly likely wont.

But do you see my facts?"

Craig:
"I can't appreciate that. I don't mind you advertising your boards in your signature, and they don't have to be proboards. But to advertise what is a rival forum service on a forum service just isn't morally right, nor respective at all.

I wouldn't expect anyone from here to go there and put www.proboards.com in their signature, and i would expect them to ask for it to be removed.

I guess that's just the way i am though."

In their position as an official support forum I completly agree with their stance on advertising competitive services; the same would apply on this forum.

I guess in my defense I was wrong, but I did make good point of views.

Probably not best to talk about these sorts of things publically.
