Coding "College" (22nd Dec 07 at 11:58pm UTC)
I thought I'd post this in general, since it's intended more for those who are interested in coding but know little about it.

I've been thinking about possibly getting together a group of coders to do a summer coding "college" type thing.

The intention of this will be to give one-on-one aid to learning coders who just can't seem to learn well from tutorials and other non-personal learning techniques [books, videos, etc.]

What I plan on doing is have someone pay a "tuition" fee [not sure what it will be yet], and that covers them for the two months of summer, and winter break.

Users can attend online "classes", which will be run by me and other coders who are interested in this. We will setup a video/chat room, where the "teacher" runs screen capture software to show what they are doing, while talking over microphone.

If "students" have questions, they need simply type their question in the chat, and the "teacher" will respond. Students can also arrange for 3 one-on-one learning sessions per week if needed.

Also, all classes will be available for streaming by students for six months. [July 1 - December 31]

Some languages that will be taught include: html, xhtml, javascript, xml, php, css, and more.

Since this is still just in the planning stages, I would like to get a feel for how much interest could be gathered from this project; so all I need to know for now is would you be interested in this?

That would be an awsome idea! Though i really stink at coding so i couldn't help.

I have a question: Would it be a website or just a chatroom?

It would be a full website, most likely on a Private Server. {Smile}

@infestor1: I appreciate the thought, but I've already finished coding the chatroom portion of it. Now I'm just talking to my host about eventually integrating the screen capture software into my server/site. {Wink}

I just want to see how much interest I can gather, then I'll put up a poll regarding tuition costs. {Smile}

Seems like a good idea. Would be helpful to, like you said, people who find it hard to pick it up from tutorials and like. Much like me, 6 months ago. {Tongue Out}

One thing I plan on adding is a free preview type thing for potential students. It will give them an opportunity to browse member features, and will show a few example recordings of classes. {Smile}

As long as it doesn't cost too much I'm in. I learned a bit of javascript once before but I've forgotten it. I've always wanted to be able to back my designs up with codes. It will come in handy with web design and what not.

So.. just how much will it cost?

Probably not too much; $20 at the most. {Smile}
