For some reason it isn't working now. Has anyone had trouble with it? I am trying to join my own forum to test something and I've failed it 10 times. Its all capitals right?
Link to forum?
I'll give it a shot to test...
and I don't think it IS all capitals.
Sometimes the letters/numbers aren't what they appear to be, had that problem with joining here. Couldn't read what some of the things were.
Yes its true, thier is abit of a problem with that, i thought it was just me. I think its only for FireFox tho.
Try this one.

If it isn't all caps, Id make it more distinct. I have no way to tell which are caps or not. And a complaint xD I don't know how this works, if you made it or its a company but if you made them then,
I don't know what the 2nd letter is. I think its an L but one could think its a 4.![]()
Personally I think a new system should be used..
like a simple sum:
2 + 2 = ?
1 + 4 = ?
they answer the question and hey presto they're not a bot!![]()
Ok 8 attempts and none of them were right... I think that's a bug!(on that forum anyway!)

2 + 2 = ?
1 + 4 = ?

That would make it easier

Love that wrighty. Bots are smart, but not that smart!

If bots have the capability to read letters that are each spaced differently, have lines through them, are tilted, and are a tad blurred, do you think they wouldn't be able to grab two numbers out of the source code and read them?![]()
No, because they aren't made to do that...
It would most definitely confuzzle them!![]()
And so long as they weren't given an id like: 'confirm_sum'![]()

Bots aren't as simple as you think Wrighty; if they were we wouldn't need confirmation codes that are distorted, misaligned, tilted, and blurred.![]()
What about an audio one then? Bots dont have ears!

Dial-up users won't like that at all; and what if someone is on a public computer with no speakers? Some of my friends only have internet access at the public library, or at school.
K. I mean, I am fine with letters, just make it more distinct. Thats all.
have a color and make the user type what color it is![]()
or an image of a shape!and people have 3 options, they have to select the correct one!
![]()
exactly, I don't think a bot would be able to pick the right one unless you use alts with the name of the shapes![]()
or in the actual image name.

Again, not hard for a bot to figure out.![]()
For fairly small sites, these things would be alright, because bot writers wouldn't bother changing their bots around for it; but for a forum system, bot writers would want to get through, so that they could spam up the site, lowering it's reputation. It would take a bot writer probably 5 minutes to make the bot read the colour.![]()

Question. Is it possible to make one without using audio that would be unsolvable by bots? Can't the bot writers keep modifying their scripts to conform with the activation code? I know the one on Proboards doesn't work. I always see those reply's with like 1,000 links in it.

Unsolvable, no. Difficult to solve, yes.
For now, Captcha images really are the best. Maybe in the future, though, we'll all just have little Retinal scanners on our computers.![]()
As far as I can see, it's only not working for URLs with the www. portion in them. On the standard domain it loads and is read fine.
As for issues with reading it, there should be no 2 letters/numbers which look alike. For example, l, i and 1 aren't included because they can all look similar, same with o and 0. The valid options are:
23456789abcdefghmnpqrstuvwxyz
I have a guest that tried to join but cant, thats 3 people now that I had to register myself, in order for them to join my forum. There should be an easier way to do this. Make them bigger, and a bit easier to read/see.
Darkmage
The image doesn't seem to show up that well on dark backgrounds. I will look at ways to implement an alternative audio check and maybe sort out the issue on dark backgrounds.
Ross could it be temporarily removed - and a much easier alternative added?

Well I can see it just fine, and I use FF2, it seems to be opera, as I said before in a pm, and now AOL, but for the third person I am not sure, as they posted in the cbox on my forum.

The issue with dark backgrounds is now resolved making it much easier to read.
