Work - Posted By Marc (cr0w) on 29th Sep 08 at 12:06am
So, do any of you have jobs?

Where do you work?

Part-time or full time?

How much do you get paid?

What are your duties?

What do you enjoy about your job?

What do you dislike about your job?

Me, I work at Dairy Queen part-time.

Since I've only worked there for about a month and haven't gotten any promotions I make minimum wage [$8.20 an hour].

Duties change every shift depending on what the shift supervisor's scheduled you for. If working out front, you basically just make people their ice cream, clean, change garbages, etc. If working grill, you take care of grill orders [hot food].

If working a night shift, you have to handle one o the closing duties. Either you'll be working "STEEL" [pretty much keep everything behind the counter spotless], hot dogs [cleaning grill, getting ready for following day, etc.], or sweeping/mopping.

I like a lot of things about my job. I like the fact that I do something different every time I work, I learn something new every shift, the people I work with are great, my manager's nice, it's an easy-going environment we get 50% discounts on ice cream/hot food, get everything else free, and a lot more.

The only thing I don't really like about work is that we share a plaza with about a dozen other places; one of which is a bar. Every Friday/Saturday night, the drunk people from the bar don't feel like waiting in line for the bathrooms there, so they try to use ours. So every weekend we lock up the bathrooms at about 9:30 and stick up "Out Of Order" signs. The only problem is that sometimes people just keep coming and coming and we can't get them locked in time. When we finally do, people argue and complain about the bathrooms being locked.

Apart from the drunk people we deal with on weekends, the job is great. {Smile}

What about you?

It's going up to $8.75 in March, and then $9.00 in March 2010. And that's student minimum wage, too; adult minimum wage is more. {Wink}

well if self-employed counts then ya i have a job.

Where do you work? I am running my own company Shining Ashes INc. Shining Ashes Inc is a video game development company, Currently I am working on my first game, an MMORPG called Divine Shadows. I plan on taking the money from that and hiring a full team and begin working in the console development industry

Part-time or full time? Part-Time at the current time. When I get out of highschool and I can devote more time to it I plan on it.

How much do you get paid? Currently -10+ a month, am i not getting any money yet, but just putting a lot in.

What are your duties? I am the programmer as well I do all the assembling and story writing at the current time.

What do you enjoy about your job? I enjoy it all, i love making games and programming then. It can be really fun and yet challenging. But the best part of it is being able to see what you imagine come to life right before you.

What do you dislike about your job? I have to say the only thing I dislike is how long it takes to run a game through full development and how much money it costs within that time.

Is it a legally registered company, with all the proper paperwork done, and also trademarked and publicly traded [as the "inc." implies] ? {Tongue Out}

Pitty that is completely illegal as you are setting up a dummy director. If you are putting the Incorporated at the end, you also have legal entity etc with the propriety limited (pty, ltd) as well. This means that you do have legal entity to the name etc, and all of that.

You however, CANNOT set up a dummy director. You are 16, you CANNOT be a director of a business. If you are caught by a government official then you can be sued and jailed for 25 years for fraudulent. Just some heads up, I can quote the exact place it says that. I looked at registering my business as well - as I'm only 17, I can't have a dummy director either.

Also, as you are an incorporated business, you need to keep tax records etc. If you fail to submit all these required papers and that EACH AND EVERY MONTH with stock counts, etc, etc then your grandmother is held liable and can also end up in a lot of trouble for fraud as well. Again, heads up {Wink}

If you need it further explained, I suggest you cancel those papers pretty much ASAP and just hold out for 2 years. If you have the URL and domain name already registered, you automatically hold international rights to that name. The incorporated bit just means that you have legal entity over that name.

Registering a business means nothing as well, you don't HAVE to register a business at all.

lol, you should have read it all a bit better and understood the weight of the decision you are making to be totally honest. 25 years jail? I'd just hang out the next 2 years myself.

So, do any of you have jobs? I have 2 jobs. My Part - Time job which is currently funding my way through school, and my business which is also being funded by my part time job until I'm old enough to register it/work full time on it.

Where do you work? I work in a pharmacy, my business however is web development.

Part-time or full time? Part time.

How much do you get paid? $11.40 an hour (more on weekends of course. Take a 50% pay loading on Saturday, 100% pay loading on Sundays and public holidays).

What are your duties? Register duties, as well as numerous other things. I have to know every S2, S3 drug in the store. What it does, it's side effects, who not to give it to, who to recommend it to, dose sizes and the like. I also have to know about things like vitamins for those that don't want drugs. Weight loss programs, I have to know stuff about hair products (like hair dyes, casting, colouring [ie, you can't go from dark to light cause your hair goes green, but light to dark is a-ok!]), dermatitis and specialist soaps and shampoos. Baby products, cosmetics - things like that. It's not as hard as it all sounds as most things like that carry general rules - and you get common ones that you learn off the back of your hand.

What do you enjoy about your job? It's interesting, learning about how things effect the body and all that.

What do you dislike about your job? People. OMG, PEOPLE SUCK! Seriously, they are just so downright annoying and total wanks. (I was gunna swear there). I mean, I have acne right, like most people do - and some little old lady told me she was 'offended by my obscene puss sores and refused to shop at Priceline Pharmacy until I had removed them from my face'. Oh yea, like I can totally help my acne. The guys that work there get called faggots and poofters a lot, cause pharmacies are often female dominated. That's about it though {Tongue Out}

Re: Work - Posted By Ross (admin) on 29th Sep 08 at 9:23am
Well I suppose I really have two jobs.

The one which pays me some decent money is my full time day job as a web developer. What I really enjoy about my job is taking a design (produced by our designer) and turning it into a fully working site. I also like some of the varied work I do (the benefit of being the developer, server administrator and part of the support service). If I had to pick something I don't like then that would be talking to customers, I'm just not a big fan of talking on the phone {Unsure}

Then I've also got a website I work for called vForums {Tongue Out} I love every aspect of this job apart; from being woken up in the middle of the night to be told that we've got a dead server {Sad} {Wink}

Re: Work - Posted By Sven (sven) on 29th Sep 08 at 11:20am
Wow, we share that similar hatred of customers {Tongue Out} I think everyone who works with the public does to be honest.

thank for the advice and what not, but I know what I am doing. {Smile} I am taking college classes for business right now and I know what it all in tails, and as for the thing with my grandmother, she will be the owner, and I just an employee for the time being, at least as far as the state will know. Also in Oregon I do believe that all major businesses have to be registered and if not, at least it really does lok good if someone takes the time to register a company,.

No one hires teens my age. I can get a job though at 15, but even then it's somewhat pointless since I wont get a license until I'm 16.

Same with me, and since we live out of town, it would be pointless driving all the way to town for about 4-5 hours work, and Mum and Dad wouldn't drive me, 'coz fuel is so expensive, so I'd have to wait 'till I am 18.

Well, if I consider vForums as an actual job, one thing I dislike about it would be the lack of pay. {Tongue Out}

Does Florida not have public transportation? Can't you get a ride? I have my licence, but I can't drive without a licenced driver in the car, so when I drive to work my mum's in the passenger seat; essentially the same as her giving me a drive. {Tongue Out}

I'm working full time at K&K Warehouse. I'm labeled Material Handler, but I can also do other stuff such as driving a forklift and such. I'm basically an all around employee there, so I can do all the jobs.

I have a job interview in a few hours at Green Bay Converting actually, so I really should be getting prepared for that.
