Ok, so my birthday is on Monday, and the only thing i'm asking for is a laptop, no money, no new phone, just a laptop.
Well my current [desktop] computer, is friggin old as hell, and takes forever to load, and my mom tells me i'm prob not gonna get a laptop. Why? because of the price.
We just got back from BB (Best Buy) and I found a laptop with a reasonable price:500$ and it was a pretty good, new laptop. Having a laptop would be easier for me, since my current computer is upstairs where theres no TV or anything eles to do.
Looks like i'm stuck with this ancient damn computer.
$500 not a lot of money? That's a month's groceries for some families.![]()
500$ was the cheapest they had, the computer was pretty nice, so I see it has reasonable.

While it may be reasonable for a computer, it's still a lot of money; which, by my guess, is why they don't want to get it.
Lol, $500.00 for a computer is worth it. It may not put food on the table, but when you're like me and hate your offline life, then its worth it.
Still, just as long as you can afford it I guess.
I should be getting a new laptop withing a week or 2, its only going to cost me $598 plus tax which would be $25, and its better then the one I was originally going to get awhile ago. Its a Compaq very nice, very slick looking, and its Vista home premium, the Acer is the same price, but the Compaq took its place/price ^_^, and the Acer was Vista Basic. So I really can't wait for it. ^_^![]()
If not a laptop, why not ask for money towards upgrading your desktop? It'll be cheaper to ask for more RAM or a new HD and it'll be like having a brand new machine![]()
It wouldn't matter even if I did upgrade it, it's just to old and can't live up to quality speed. If not a laptop, why not ask for money towards upgrading your desktop? It'll be cheaper to ask for more RAM or a new HD and it'll be like having a brand new machine![]()
Plus, a laptop would help be more mobile while on the computer.
Just ask for money, and if you don't get enough for a laptop then save until you do.
I hear ya there. You can even take the computer on long trips and what not.It wouldn't matter even if I did upgrade it, it's just to old and can't live up to quality speed. If not a laptop, why not ask for money towards upgrading your desktop? My mom's computer is getting to the point where it can't live up to the quality either. Its all basically ancient software.
My Windows 3.1 is ancient, and it still works too ^_^ but sadly my Windows 95 diedI miss the games on it. But my Win 3.1 is packed away.

My Computer Engineering teacher has a Windows 1.0 computer in his office; I got to use it; it's so...ancient.![]()
I bet its really slow to? my 3.1 is slow. if i had my 95 that be slow too.
I remember we used to only have Windows 98. We had like 3 of them, those things were so crappy..
I'm running on a laptop, and I personally enjoy them better than desktops although the next computer I'm buying is going to be a gaming computer.
Laptops are nice and they are competing with desktops a lot now, but its hard to compare it with some of the things a gaming desktop can do in my opinion. You can pack a laptop with the stuff to game, but it becomes a big laptop.
Alien ware is the best gaming computer/laptop, and its cheap too![]()
Jeez you guys are so spoiled. What about the millions of kids who want nothing more than food on their birthday because their starving? Perspective people, perspective.

Right now we're giving the thread creator advice from the perspective of someone who can't get a new computer but would still like his to work better if he cannot get a laptop.
Yes, compared to the children who are starving we are spoiled, but does it make us bad people for wanting things we can have? We're grateful for what we have, and should appreciate the fact that we have these things.

I wasn't referring to everyone, I was just nagged by the fact he made a big deal out of not getting a laptop for his birthday, and titled the post "Rant."
And my reply was a little bit satirical.![]()
We recently had a windows 98 before my mom upgraded. That thing was so pathetic, you couldn't even listen to music. Not to mention, it was dial-up.
The box finally got fried during a thunder/lightening storm which forced my mom to get a new computer with high speed DSL.
