Server Migration - Posted By Ross (admin) on 12th Dec 08 at 11:13am
Due to some issues we have been experiencing with our primary forum server we will shortly be transferring all data to a new machine.

I'm hoping that downtime will be minimal. In the event that after the transfer there is anything missing (posts, pms etc.) then please let me know so I can retrieve it from the old server.

During the transfer some forums may load a little slowly but once we point everything to the new server full speed will be resumed.

Which forum was that?

The data center cloned the server a little over an hour ago, unfortunately it has taken me a little time to get everything else setup on it. So what I'm doing is just switching the database connections for all the forums which have not had anything new added to them over the past hour (boards, categories, posts, pms, users).

Well its up now, but when I posted that this forum wasn't up at all:

I was getting a port error

That is actually in the first database to be switched. Unfortunately I didn't realize it wasn't working properly until right after I had switched the first one {Lips Sealed} But it's all working OK on the new database server now?

from what I can see, but I haven't worked with it much at all, i've been busy doing server work myself. Just got a dedicated server so i'm setting my game up for alpha testing. BUt kind of hot on the topic to so speak. The software didn't say that the dedicated server had to be running a windows based setup so I could run exe files...so I had the host install linux and cpanel, so i;m trying to figure out how i cna run the exe files so that i can get the game client to connect to the database...

Anyways taht way off topic, but Ya I think it works fine.

All forums data should now be on our new database server. In a few moments time I will be making the DNS changes so that forum URLs go directly to the new server. I will be doing this to the support forum before any others so that we can check it is working properly.

I have had no problems besides Infinity Codes. It said "Page load error" but after I refreshed it, it was back up. But my other forums are fine. As far as I can tell. Have not been to all of them {Lips Sealed}

As far as I am aware, all aspects of the server transfer are now complete. Obviously we will continue to keep a close eye on things to ensure everything is working as it should. If anyone does have any issues with their forum then please let us know.
