Many members = can't login!? (5th Apr 08 at 6:43am UTC)
:-/
(I don't know if it goes here or Support)

http://freunion.vforums.co.uk

Many of my members can't log in, or wont stay logged in, even though they choose 'Forever'. In order for them to log in, they have to create another account in order for them to log in.

Thanks,
Darkmage

Creating a new account would have no impact of them being able to login or not. Once you register, you're not automatically logged in or anything like that.

If they're having trouble styaing logged in get them to check the folowing:
1. Their browser has cookies enabled and is not configured to clear cookies at the end of every session
2. They're using the URL without the www. at the front
3. That they're sticking to just one domain. Might be worth setting the option in Forum settings to always use the .vforums extention
4. The clock on their PC needs to be (more or less) right.

For Number 3, I only make it use .vforums.co.uk.

But I will copy your text and put it into a post on my forum.

But this is 2 people who cant login, and one person, that cant stay logged in. That one person told me that she cleared out her cookies made sure that IE accepts VF cookies, and that she restarted the computer, She logged in while using the 'Forever' option, she posted a few times, exited out, next day have to re login again.

Now for the other 2 that can't log in, they could login before. Just like my last post, the member joined my forum, and could not even log in, even though everything was fine, email activated, and accepted.

(For future reference, I think approving the members before they can log in is pointless, sure its a good idea for private forums, but my forum is open, and there should be an option to stop it, because I don't check that area, because I never had to.)

Thanks,
Darkmage

If she can login and post fine, then this is definitely a browser problem. {Wink}

Unless you make it a requirement via forum settings, you do not need to approve any accounts.

I don't have the option required.

Approve New Members: <--- I have that Disabled, so I should not have to go into the pending members to approve, but I still have to do it. Ross your name was in the pending members group, were I had to approve it.

They appear there because they will have to be approved if you ever decide to require approvals. Member accounts do not have to be approved unless if you require it.

Yeh but also if there account says Pending their post count will not go up. Some one posted 1 times, and the count was still at 0. http://freunion.vforums.co.uk/action/view_profile/user/caldina/
She is also the one that can't log in too, and that had to create a new account.

Are you positive that the board does not have post counts disabled, and also that you have approvals disabled? {Smile}

The board is an RP board, and I have other members post in that board and their post count goes up, and I do have them disabled. As I said, I have no use for those will never have any use for them at all.

EDIT: Since this is the only forum I use, this is the only forum that I know has problems, my other VF Forums I am sitting on those for awhile, I am only concentrating on one forum and one forum only.

As the information I can gather here is limited, this will have to be left for Ross to manually look into when he wakes up. {Smile}

The "Pending" status has nothing to do with if their post count goes up or not, the only time the pending status does anything at all is when you require members to be approved, at all other times it's ignored.

The only thing which stops the post count going up is when someone posts in a board with disabled post counts. I've just logged into your account, gone to modify board -> 7th Heaven and as I knew it would, the "Disable Post Counts" option was set to yes. I've changed that to "No" as I presume you don't want post counts disabled in there.

Is this on http://freunion.vforums.co.uk? Have you checked the points listed in the first reply? If so, what is your username on that forum and what web browser are you using?

Oh ok, I must have missed that, thanks Ross. {Tongue Out}

No this person is not on my forum, as I still have 23 members since 2 days ago.
