Notice that you're editing not quoting. (5th Feb 10 at 6:42pm EST)
This would be a neat option to have in profile settings as a moderator or above when editing other people's posts as a notification that you're editing not quoting just in case.

A lot of people (guilty myself) accidently press edit without thinking.

Personally, this is a 'common sense' thing, and not necessary.

I agree with Graham. You should be able to see that you're editting... {Unsure}

The only and i mean only time i can see even getting confused is when people just quote something for their message {Unsure}

I will admit that I have also modified a post rather than quoted it, but having this as a built-in feature is a little unnecessary.

I feel this would make more sense as a code. {Smile}

yeah, I used to do the same. on a forum when I was promoted from normal member to Mod. of being a year of being a regular member, you are familiar with what you have in front of you. When you are promoted to mod, you get that edit button for every ones post. well.... I'd always hit the edit button instead of quote, and thus I have to re-edit the post, take what I said out, tell them that it was an accident, and then look carefully and press the quote button. This happened quite often to me.

With the ability to change the template for posts now, the edit/delete buttons could easily be moved away from the quote button. Removing the possibility of accidentally clicking on them?

Or as Marc said, a simple code could add a big message above the modify post page.

Even as an admin, I've clicked the edit button, and just tell the above poster that I did that, now with the template system, I simply but the buttons in the order I'm used to them being in as they are on other forums that I'm non-staff on.
