Instant Reply Notification (Now Implemented) (7th Jun 08 at 11:45pm UTC)
Receive instant notification of replies to topics via email or pm
Instant topic notification has been added to this support forum. This new feature enables you to receive either a PM or an email whenever a reply is posted to a particular topic. This feature, like others, is AJAX based to give you the most streamlined browsing experience.

To setup notification, simply click the Image button found at the top & bottom of each topic. Once clicked, you will be asked which type of notification you would like. And that's all it takes. You can then remove this notification via the Image button (which takes its place at the top & bottom of each topic) or via your Notifications page.

Once we're happy that it is working OK, this feature will be released to all forums. You can help speed up this process by helping test the system; one area I'm particularly interested in is if the email messages appear properly formatted in all email clients.

Enjoy {Smile}

Note: At the moment a button to your notification area has been added to the menu bar. I do not think this will be its final position but need to find space elsewhere first {Smile}

Update

As no issues have arisen, this feature has now been implemented across all vForums message boards. As always, if you do have any problems then please make use of the support board {Smile}

Set this to email me! {Smile} Let's see! {Tongue Out}

The bug with the icon changing is that it only changes one of them. I'll get that fixed at some point before releasing to all forums {Smile}

Can we change "Unnotify" to "Remove Notification" ? Unnotify just sounds weird. {Tongue Out}

Also, I think the profile would be a good place for the notification stuff. {Smile}

Unnotify is shorter so takes up less room on crowded navigation. Plus I've checked a few dictionaries and unnotify is an actual word {Tongue Out}

As for having it accessible via the profile, that's where I'd like to have it but am a little short of space there when a forum is quite thin and you have admin powers. For example I've already got links to Modify Profile, Warn, Ban, Send PM, Add to Buddies and Delete Account. Notifications could push that bar too far but we'll have to see.

Ross how about making the "notify" button inside the thread a little different from the main button which will appear in the menu bar or pm bar or wherever?

It's unlikely that the link to the main notifications page will use an icon. The one here is really just a temporary measure.

Thanks for doing the slip.wr.blu template buttons. I'll get them uploaded later this afternoon {Smile}

Bug Number 1: No Email. AOL.

I will change my email to my yahoo one, then MSN, then try Google.

Which thread? Did someone reply to it other than you?
Finally, how long did you wait? {Smile}

This one. Since my very 1st post.

The emails generated for these notifications do not go through the same kind of validation checks as other emails. This speeds up the sending process although it does increase the chances of mail being marked as spam or rejected.

Can you ensure that notification@virtualforums.co.uk is added to your allowed list and that the message wasn't sent to your spam folder.
