Recycle Bin to Restore "Deleted" Topics & Posts (18th Dec 07 at 1:53pm UTC)
Now you never need to lose another valuable topic or post again. All deleted posts are now stored in a "Recycle Bin" which is accessible via your admin panel. In this recycle bin will be a list of all topics which have been deleted as well as any posts which have been deleted by yourself or another staff member. From this page you can choose to either view a deleted topic, restore a deleted topic, restore multiple topics, view deleted posts or restore deleted posts.

Since protecting members rights is always important, you won't be able to restore a post belonging to another member if they deleted it themselves. In addition to this, you won't be able to restore any posts deleted before today other than posts you made yourself.

If at some point in the future, the database space taken up by "deleted" topics/posts becomes too large then older posts may need to be removed from the database altogether. For this reason, I would not recommend using the recycle bin as a permanent storage facility.

Just to confirm, admins can still see the posts that other member's deleted, correct? {Smile}

No. If a member deleted an individual post of their own then it cannot be seen by the admins. Unless there's a good reason why admins may need to see those posts? I couldn't think of any reasons myself but am open to ideas {Smile}

Someone could post derogatory comments, or something against the ToS, then delete it to hide proof.

That's my feeling behind it too - absolutely love the idea behind it, but perhaps make it a main admin-only option? (like PB has with the security log, delete forum etc). The main admin would need to know if something had been posted that could cause offence/be a violation of the TOS so they could act on it.

At the moment the whole recycle bin feature is main-admin only but that's just because I've not yet changed the modify/create group pages so that other groups can be given access too. I'll consider adding the capability for the main admin to see (but not restore) any posts a member deleted {Smile}

Ok {Smile} Good call on the "not restoring" the posts, if the content is questionable then it wouldn't be restored but as long as it's viewable then it'd be an effective method {Smile}

I agree; it's tough if you're running a forum and someone says that so-and-so said something about them, but the post was deleted so there's no proof. {Unsure}
