Advanced Censored Word Features (13th Jan 10 at 3:48am UTC)
I don't know how many people here use word censors so i don't know who could even use this request, but its worth a try.

I was wondering if it be possible to add an option to the usergroup powers that allow the allowed group to see the word thats being censored? I was thinking something like $%#^ {hogs}, $%#^ being the word as a normal user would see it and then $%#^ {hogs} as the allowed group would see it with hogs being the word that was censored.

The reason I am asking this is because despite context clues, and depending on how a person has their censors setup, you don't always know what the user is saying, and not sure if its just a minor word or if its something you should give them a warning over. I know one major argument is going to be that you can make it so that you can still understand what the word is, but isn't the point of censors to make is so that the word can't be seen or understood{Confused}

Another useful thing for those that does use censors is have some sort of a log of everyone that breaks a censor, displaying their name, the url to the post, as well as the word they used. This would work great for advanced management for bigger forums. Also adding something like this in it would make it easier to code up things making the warning system and censored words work along side each others.

Again I don't know how many people really use the censored words feature {Unsure}

It's there so they cannot be seen - it's impossible to stop them being understood as it's the context in which it's written - if someone is angry then posts a load of asterisk's, we all know what it means {Tongue Out}

It *could* work, but i kinda feel it's going to over-complicate the process.

That just depends on how things are censored for example i use *Censored* for every single one of my censored words, leaving only content clue to even know what the word is. The point of it though is make it easier to track and document when the censor system is needed to be used and why so further action can be taken upon the member.

One major problem I have seen is it doesn't check for whole words {Unsure} it just for just whole word fragments, even if that means censoring out a small part of another word thats suppose to have the word in it. Its rather annoying having to do though and add a space before and after every single word in the censor list in order for it to look for that word and that word alone, plus then it also removed the spaces {Unsure}

With that said, Ross, maybe you could edit this and add a dropdown menu beside each word that says something like "Whole Word" and "Word Context". Whole word censoring just that word when it appears, checking to see if their is a space before and after the word and if so then it censors the words, leaving the spaces. Then Word Context would continue doing as the system does now, when the word come up, even in the context of another word, it blocks it.
