A simple signature lighting trick (10th Mar 08 at 2:09pm UTC)
Have you seen those tags which have a nice heavenly gloss/glow on them? Well here's a simple way to perform one on a render:

Step 1. Duplicate the existing render
Step 2. Go to Filter > Blur > Gausian Blur and give a radius of 2.5
Step 3. Then Edit > Fade Gausian Blur at 100% Opacity
Step 4. Set that layer to lighten

You may have to play around with the numbers, but that's a universal method. Many people get far too complicated with smudging and brushing, but I have found this the easiest way to do it.

I usually duplicate once and do a gaussian render between 2.5-8 then set that to overlay and duplicate that layer a few times - using "linear overlay", "hard light", "lighten", and "soft light" at varying opacities.
