Question (9th Jan 08 at 8:03pm UTC)
This forum service seems to reflect ProBoards a lot...and I see that Ross is the admin so I can see why. {Tongue Out}

But my question is this: What does vForums offer for me that ProBoards doesn't? Why should I choose vForums over ProBoards?

A lot of people have said what you just said but that similarity is definitely only on the surface and I don't think it'll even stay there for that long. Already we're more different from ProBoards than other forum services who have been around much longer.

One of our primary goals is to make it as easy as possible to create a customised forum. To do this a lot of features which other services require you to add as a code are implemented as standard. For example, you can create gradients on the fly just by specifying the two colors to use or you can just enter the URL of the image you wish to use. Neither way requires you to add any coding to your forum. Other examples would include separating the categories, adding head/base images and being able to design custom templates for the mini-profile.

On top of that we have a number of features simply not possible with other providers such as advanced member groups, positionable ads, a recycle bin, welcome messages, warning decay and exporting/importing skins.

But I think the most important part of this is that a number of the features mentioned above have been added after the service launched. And I've got a lot of other features which will be implemented over time. Regular updates means you can get the features you want much quicker and downtime for these upgrades is only ever a few minutes at a time (if even that) rather than being offline for an entire day which happens with other providers when they have their larger (but a lot less often) upgrades.

[/promotional talk]

Hopefully that answers some of your questions about how we're different {Smile}

Yeah a lot of my friends think that I'm stupid because phpBB and the like are so much "better" but I hate the customization limits on them

*Shudders at the thought*

I've never understood peoples attraction to phpBB. I find it so hard to use and customize and all the forums using it look the same (probably because none of them could customize it {Tongue Out} )

yeah I hate PHPbb tooo ... it's too hard to customize.

Took me 2 days to work out how to make a code for it! {Unsure}

It's not as simple as vF! {Tongue Out}

I find that most forum providers that require you to host yourself are harder to customize. {Unsure}

How often do you see an Invision board that doesn't span the width of the screen? How often do you see a phpBB with split categories, head/base images, custom welcome tables, and a remodelled PM bar?

From a graphics creator's standpoint, vForums blows everything out there out of the water. Customization abilities are so easy that when I finished adding a test skin for the first time I was like: That's it? That's all there is to it? WHOA. {Grin}

From just a general member's standpoint, I can honestly tell you that you won't get the fast, friendly and helpful staff that you get here at vForums Support anywhere else. They are professional, but they don't make you feel like you're just some idiot who is graced because you joined their message board system. Quite honestly, I would recommend vForums to anyone first before any other service out there.

Sure it might look similar to Proboards, but once you get involved with vForums you realize that it's actually only superficial. {Wink}

I can say vForums has a great target! I love it already by taking a look at the admin panel. The built in skin features, etc. Headers/footers that are for skins and global! =O.

Why I think it looks similar to PB? Because of the defualt colours right now. When the skin contest is over hopefully a new set of colours will be default.
