pmwww | I r teh 1337n3$$ (4th Mar 09 at 5:43am UTC) Installing RAM | | So today I wanted more RAM, I went to walmart bought a 2GB DDR2. So I did not go on the internet to read how to install RAM. I thought it would be like a desktop.... But nooo.... So I unscrewed EVERY screw from the bottom, tried to open my laptop up, I found the RAM bay, but I did not know if that was the RAM or not. I could not find out how to open it. So I put it back together found out that the RAM bay was not inside the laptop but on the underside it. So I took out the chips very carefully. I found out that there are only 2 Card slots, well I thought there was 4... -_- So I went to put both the 1GB and the other 1GB RAM back into the slots. I screwed it back in.
I turned on my laptop and it would turn on for a few seconds, then turned off. About this time I was freaking out... I thought I lost my computer once again.. So I take it into my mom's room, she tells me to unscrew everything again. I unscrewed the RAM bay, and come to find out I inserted the RAM in wrong. The bottom one was not in all the way. So it took me about 5 minutes to try to take the bottom one out and re-insert it back in. Now I inserted both 1GB sticks in, turned the laptop on, and it worked.
Now that I know where the Bay is. Just right underside the laptop. So I opened the case for the 2GB stick. I took out 1 of the 1GB RAM Sticks, and inserted the 2GB Stick. Now I have 3GB of RAM. Now I tried my game that was slowed my computer down. (Need for speed: Undercover) and now I can turn the graphics up to an extent and it wont crash nor slow down. Now my laptop can only hold about 4GB. So I will be getting another 2GB stick, and taking out the last 1GB stick, so then I will have 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB I noticed that my computer started up much faster, and other programs start faster too!
So that was my most horrific but l33tn3ss afternoon. and yes I took out the AC off from my laptop, and took the battery out before I did any of this "work".
Has anyone had any similar problems. Or am I the only newb that has actually done that? How many of you build computers, and had some problems? I know I wanna start building computers a bit later on, after I go to a tech college that is near our city. | |
