I agree with the painful part, but he was dead pretty quickly. It doesn't take that long anyways for 2 legs to just stream out blood before you die.
Also my input to the whole incident, it's nature. The shark, in my opinion, shouldn't be killed because the only person who saw it is dead and they may kill the wrong one, and also because if they kill every shark that bites because it confused a human for prey then they will go extinct. Sure it doesn't occur that often, but you never know until they're gone.
