Problem:
Hello,

I hope this topic is not already existing somewhere, I tried some unsucessfull searches.
I modify the default skin with some new images, specially for buttons, banner, etc.
It looks like that the sites hosting my images are not allowed: I tried 2 different ones, since my initial Google one is in https mode (who knows)
The images are not recognized when I load them in the skin import session or with menu Forum :: Admin Panel :: Customize Skin Images.

I encountered different troubles, which seems to be not totally repeatable... {Sad} was depending on whether I was logged in the host site, etc...
But, since this is not clear to me, I'd rather give an example.
I googled an image from any server and tried to host them on 2 others servers,
http://images.gifsmaniac.com/cartoons/schtroumpf/cartoons-schtroumpf-60.gif (Displayed/animated)
https://sites.google.com/site/evilsmurfsdo/images/WalkingSmurf.gif (Displayed/animated)
http://evilsmurfs.byethost32.com/images/WalkingSmurf.gif (not displayed)

and this occurs with jpg, png formats as well

I have any clue on this... have you?

Thanks anyway for reading.

Few good host to try:

http://tinypic.com/
http://photobucket.com
http://imageshack.us

Where were you trying to upload these images?

edit: FYI: The skin you are using is not customizable. It's a premade skin. You would want the plain skin in order for you to customize it. {Smile}

That last on displays an error message about the account limit having been reached when you try to open it.

Sorry, I was not totally clear and correct in what I typed, it was too late... or early in the morning. Here are details and modifications to original post.

I googled an image from any server and tried to host them on 2 others servers,
http://images.gifsmaniac.com/cartoons/schtroumpf/cartoons-schtroumpf-60.gif (Displayed/animated) This one is the reference that I transferred to the 2 following hosting sites.
https://sites.google.com/site/evilsmurfsdo/images/WalkingSmurf.gif (Displayed/UNanimated) It is UNanimated, otherwise, this would be fine. The first hoster I tried.
http://evilsmurfs.byethost32.com/images/WalkingSmurf.gif (not displayed) The second hoster I tried.

Thanks Nick, that is a good reason for having experienced so many troubles (yes I did not have asked each of them in the forum, I managed to fix some on my own {Smile} )
{Confused} But why was it one of the skin proposed at the creation of my forum ?
And where is the plain one?

I guess, I'll have to try one hoster from your list... Now I'm very good at moving all my images from one site to the other {Smile}
Thank you Nick.

You are so right {Sad} I have only created it 24 hours ago, and uploaded only 10 images... Is this what they call free hosting?!
Thank you Ross.

Anyway, are there restrictions in the skins on site allowed for images hosting

Re: Images hosts restricted - Posted By Ross (admin) on 17th Jul 11 at 10:44pm
Provided it is a valid image URL, there's no reason it shouldn't display as desired.
I'd recommend trying some of the image hosts Nick mentioned.
If you want to start with a blank canvas as it were, the "Plain" skin can be access/created by going into you admin panel, going to "Create New Skin", giving it a name and then proceeding to the next page. From this next page you can scroll to the bottom and click on "Save Changes" to have a plain skin created. This skin is then normally much easier to customize with changing colours, adding images etc.

The other skins there are ones that won a skin contest a few years ago. (Think we need more since newer possibilities have been created for skin making. {Tongue Out} )

Restrictions on what?

The hosting sites are working for the two tests I've performed. But now, my point is to get the images from Bluestream skin, host them, modify some of them and adapt consequently my new skin.
Thus I would like to know what do you mean by not customizable? Copyright matter? technical matter? else?
Because technically, apart I'm beginner with skin, it seems to be customizable, my current skins are variants of bluestream, I even included on one of them, the preformatted post functionnality.

I've done this and it works fine, thanks. But the way is longer to get where I want, since when I export this skin (in order to work directly on the code and study it for changes) lesser information are there. And since my goal is very close to bluestream, I'd rather have bluestream itself as a starting point.

Re: Images hosts restricted - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 22nd Jul 11 at 5:10pm
Ross will have to tell you about bluestream as I am not quite sure. I have not edited it, nor used it. I always use my own custom images.

Sorry I can't help you with this one. {Unsure}

no problem, Thanks anyway Nick.
Now I use photobucket, and images are available on my forum.

About the skin, one day I will find a way out {Smile}

I think they are hosted by vForums it's self. The Skin competition was back in 2007. and Slip.wr and Bluestream were the winners. I think another too, but I cannot remember what it was called.
