What do you need help in?: I was wondering what price is the real price for the setting up a domain name. On the website it says 10 dollars and on the forum it says 4 dollars.
Another question. This is from the website.Domain Hosting enables you to use your own domain name on your forum. So rather than your-name.vforums.co.uk you could use forum.your-name.tld or even your-name.tld
Where it says .tld. Can that be anything like a .com or .net?
The $10 you are referring to is likely the yearly fee for registering the domain; that price is set by the registrar and has nothing to do with vForums. vForums charges a one-time fee of 3 forum credits for setting up our servers to work with your domain.
"TLD" stands for "top-level domain", which is the .com, .net, etc.![]()
So if I buy the ad-free credits costing $5.86 I will get a life-time sub-domain for my Virtual Forums website?
Also after I get the credits what do I do to get the sub-domain?
You do need to register a separate domain in order for it to work; when I said it had nothing to do with vForums I was referring to the price they had set.![]()
Right now I have a domain. www.thegamerspark.com (Still working on it though)
Right now the domain is messed up a bit though. It's still giving me the home page name after the domain is put in. (I know I can't describe things good)
Is that what you mean for the separate domain?

What Marc means is that if you wish to use the domain 'thegamerspark.com' to direct to your forum then you can, but if you wish for it to have the address 'forum.thegamerspark.com' then you will need to purchase that as a sub-domain - that should be easy enough to do via your registrar![]()
So all that together would be 16 dollars plus 10 dolllars a year?
Hi,
I'm not sure what pricing you're exactly referring to there. (I have removed the sticky from this board as the system is now [partly] automated and that may have been confusing matters). The price shown on the shop site is a one-off setup fee for setting up the system on your forum.
As you already have the domain you wish to use, there shouldn't be any other fees involved. Obviously this varies from one registrar/web host to another but most will either allow you to setup your own DNS records or will be willing to set them up for you. If you want to let me know who these companies are and how the domain is setup I should be able to give you a good idea of who best to talk to or what to do.

Edit: Having checked the latest exchange rates, it looks like the prices shown on the site are quite out of date. I've updated them to the current exchange rates which works out as the setup fee being around $7.40 USD (a more accurate price gets shown once going to the Google Checkout site, the one on the vF website obviously isn't updated as often and the exchange rates seem to be changing so rapidly at the moment)
Yeah that would work. Currently I am using Go-Daddy. Is there anyway that do the domain setup on this?

Absolutely. To do it, login to your godaddy account. Go to the "Domain Manager" page and click your domain name. The next page should show lots of information about how the domain is setup, and at the bottom of the middle column, there will (hopefully) be a link "Total DNS Control and MX Records". Once you click that, you'll go to the page where you can create the CNAME record for your forum.
Thanks. I will do that tommorrow. I still have to ask my dad (He gave me the webpage from his site.)
so am I understanding this right, you go by the setup fee for the domain (10 USD), plus the 7 something for the three credits or just the $10? Sorry me and mezorro were talking about this earlier on today, and I need to know all this as well![]()
The total cost varies depending on what domain name you are using, different TLDs cost different amounts and this cost varies from one registrar to another. The only constant cost is the setup fee this end of £5 (or the equivalent in USD). As the system is now partly automated via the online shop, there's little point in counting the cost in ad-free credits.
Just to let you know I'm probably gonna need step by step instructionsI don't get things that easily. Sorry for being complicated

basically, from my understanding, scrath the add-free credit and pay the $0 start-up, the only cost other then that of the domain (which I already know the cost of).Ok ty

If you let me know at what stage you're getting stuck then I'll walk you through the rest![]()
Ok what I get so far is that I need to purchase 3 ad-free credits on the shop. Make a thread saying that I want to buy the domain. Then I get to the place where I can put the sub-domain. After that I have it then I'm happy.
Is that right?![]()

No. Making a thread would mean I'd have to do it manually when there's now a much easier way![]()
Go to http://shop.virtualforums.co.uk/?section=domain
Fill in your forums username, the domain/sub-domain you wish to use and a contact email. Once you do that it'll add the domain hosting to your cart and at the bottom of the box it'll give the values/details you need to setup the CNAME record (which I will talk you through setting up).
Next, click the "Checkout" button to be taken through to Google Checkout who will process the payment.
Then, let me know you've done that and I'll talk you through setting up the CNAME record with Godaddy![]()
Might not get this soon. Dad said I shouldn't get it. Might take a while to convence him. Thanks for the help and I hope I'll get it soon![]()
