Something wrong with login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 20th Mar 08 at 10:40pm
Forum URL:http://freunion.vforums.co.uk
Experienced By: me and not sure about anyone else
Browser: FF
Operating System: Windows XP

Problem:
The problem is, is that I required everyone before the log in to validate their email. So I got the email, I put the code in, then I clicked continue, it takes me back to the home page, yet I am not logged in.

and when I click the quick login, it says I am already logged in.

Thanks,
Darkmage

Try clearing your cookies.
It'll log you out everywhere else also, but it'll solve this problem too! {Smile}

ok, and just to let you know I tried it on IE and it still does the samething.

EDIT:
I did, and it shows the skin that I was using, but it still shows the login | register buttons.

EDIT 2:
I click the resend validation, and it gives me the new code. and it says this:
An Error Has Occurred
The key provided is not valid.

Are you still unable to login though having deleted cookies?

Re: Something wrong with login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 20th Mar 08 at 10:58pm
Yes, Though it shows that I am logged in, and yet, I am unable to go to admin, pm's, ect. and it shows the skin I was using last.

The system claims the email address has not been validated. In the email you received there should have been a "key" which you could either click on or enter into this page:

http://freunion.vforums.co.uk/action/validate

When the system validates your email it will come up with a message saying that the address was validated.

I did that 4 times and it still says this:

Can you post/PM the entire contents of the validation email?

That is not the same key as listed in the database. Did you request a new key/change your email at any point?

Re: Something wrong with login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 20th Mar 08 at 11:18pm
No I did not.

Re: Something wrong with login - Posted By Ross (admin) on 20th Mar 08 at 11:20pm
A new validation key has just been sent to your account. Can you try using that one?

Re: Something wrong with login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 20th Mar 08 at 11:21pm
Nope still don't, it still says its not valid.

EDIT:

Why does it show that I am logged in? which I am not. I am not able to access admin controls. and I still have the QL at the bottom of the forum.

Can you post the new key you received?

The system marks you as being logged out to pevent you from accessing anything more than a guest until you validate your account. The info center is updated before this happens so you're still being listed on there as a member.

I put in:
http://freunion.vforums.co.uk/action/admin

It took me to the admin page, but it still shows:
Email validation required.
The administrator of this forum requires you to validate your email address before you can browse the forums.
A validation key has been sent to the address listed in your profile.

If you did not recieve this email or require further assistance, please click here.

(I found a Typo as well {Tongue Out} (recieve = receive))

and:

{ Home | Help | Search | Login | Register | Website}

Since I was able to access the admin panel, I disabled the Require Email Validation. But yet even though I figured a hole, its still a problem for other forums. and even when I click on Enable it will still do the same thing.

It seems like the new key generated each time was being associated with the wrong account. I've fixed that and a new key (hopefully your key) is now heading for your inbox.

There it worked thanks Ross.
