Website login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 28th Dec 07 at 4:08am
Code:

  1. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ffnation.virtualforums.co.uk/javascript/login.php?login_for=select&display_pm=1">
  2. <!--
  3. /* External Forum Login Box
  4. provided by virtualforums.co.uk
  5. Free Hosted Message Boards */
  6. //-->
  7. </script>

What does the select mean?
Does that mean login time?
and can there be a Register as well?

"select" means that the drop down box will be shown so users can choose how long to stay logged in for. Or you can choose for the user by putting the number of minutes to stay logged in for in its place in which case the user is not offered the option.

Since the register link just needs to be a HTML link, you could just add that seperately.

Ok, gotcha. So what does the login do? does it log you into your forum, and can you browse the forum along with your website?

It'll take the user to your forum and log them in. If the user is already logged in it'll show them a message telling that they're logged in and can show them their PM info. It's just a way of better linking your forum to your website.

oh ok, I see.

Re: Website login - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 30th Dec 07 at 12:54am
For some reason it wont show up:
http://www.freewebs.com/ffnation3/login.html

and for some other reason, this JS wont work:
<!-- Freewebs bar -->
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://h1.ripway.com/Darkmage09/freebar.js">
</script>

When I try to add that, the blue bar at the bottom shows, up. I altered the above code so that it would not show up, thats only when I have both the login code and the altered freebar code, the blue bar shows up, and when I take the freebar code out, the bar disappears, are the 2 codes coinciding with each other, and "killing" the other one off?

As if I'd hurt a fly {Cool}

It would appear that it was having trouble reading the cookies off of the forum. Which was why it worked for Wrighty but not Darkmage. I've lowered the security on it so that it no longer needs to check for cookies. Afterall, it only shows the user/display name combination. No sensitive information is transmitted.
