Hello all, while I was working with a friend on a forum adding items to the additional profile options we came across what we think should be added for ease of use.
The both of us agreed that there should be an add button available so the page has to be reloaded less, we also agreed that there should be a reorder button, as the options go in the order they are added and at some places such the one we were working on, things are added and subtracted at random times, thus a reorder button would be handy and save a lot of frustration on small changes that had to become big.
One thing personally I would like to change myself is the instructions at the top of the page. For me, they are written in Greek, I have quoted parts that make no sense or are hard to understand.
By entering a value into the "Min-Length" field you are making that field compulsory.
It should better explain what "min-length" does and why it becomes compulsory.
By entering a number into the "Increase by n with each post" field the value will equal to [post count x n + default value]
I'm no ace at math, "n" can be understood as a number but the equation is what is in Greek, after a while some will make sense of it but I feel that it written out as such: [equal to] ... the members post count times (multiplied) the number to increase by plus (added to) the default value.
I agree with this but I would like to add something, I would like the ID of each field to be shown, that would make it easier to code the mini-profile template
I think you've made it more complicated
With regards to an 'add' button and the like...i can see a need for it, but is it something that is crucial?
Look at this way. Frustrated admins will move their business elsewhere. For me it is frustrating to have to rebuild something when all it needs is a simple "reorder" and "add" features.
As for the re-wording I would write it better. You and others probably have a better understanding of how the system works and how it's written. As for me and those that don't understand math, or the equation, I see a need to word it better.

Lets be honest, that's a bit of a slippery slope argument there.
I don't see the need for it myself, but i'll be interested to see what others feel.
I honestly don't see how it's so hard to understand. I mean, if you suggested an alternative then we could consider using that or something. But those that are there are perfectly fine - bare in mind, I've never used that system, so haven't read it before!
I honestly can back up Radient Fires on adding in a reorder system there has been many time (mainly on role play forums) that the additional profile option area is used and somethign gets put into the wrong place, or something needs to be added but it had to be at the top, and everything has to be readded to add it, then you ahve to go through everyones account and edit their additional profile stats manually because changing the fields placement didn't change where the variables are assigned. Honestly I can see how it is very and i mean very annoying, luckily i've basically gave up on making rpg forums.
I missed the addition & reorder bits.
I agree with being able to reorder. But adding new ones? I feel less inclined to agree with it, but it's up to Ross!
Okay, to Michael and Graham, the reason I see a need for the instructions to be rewritten is because (for myself) and probably others that use the system for numbers don't realize that it takes your default value lets say is 300, and the member makes a post, following that equation, one is to believe that it goes, by multiples of 1, then 2, and so on. Which the admin or whomever set it not to intend that.
To the whole thread;
Still for the min-length. Why the makes it compulsory and/or what it does in the first place? Not everyone understands that; I don't, nor some admins, that may not even post here.
I have no idea what compulsory means personally XD

At least I don't feel alone on that now
You don't know what compulsory means? I don't know another word that could be used instead. It makes it so that you have to fill the information in before navigating away.
required is a start
Or mandatory
Or mandatory
That's no better than compulsory.
Required perhaps.
I like required. That sounds good.
Some interesting ideas. We have some planned changes to the additional profile options anyway so I'll see what can be done
