Category ID reset - Posted By flyoffacliff (flyoffacliff) on 1st Feb 10 at 7:42pm
Make it so we can remove a category and put it back with the same ID.

So you're suggesting like a rename?

Can't we do that already?

I think thats what the purging system is for

Indeed, the purging system will allow this. And in most cases I do believe that Ross will reinstate a deleted category for you if you wish. {Smile}

I know, but contacting Ross just wastes time. And the prunge fecture goes back 2 weeks.

How would you like it implemented? The purge feature is there to protect the main admin. This seems like it will make it so that this safety net is bypassed! {Unsure}

I don't see how it is suppost to protect the main admin. All im asking for is so you can make a category with an ID that was used in the past.

Let's say you get hacked or either a staff member destroys your forum. That "net" Michael is referring to is to allow you to recover your forum from those damages. The feature you're suggesting bypasses as in overrides the safety of your forum.

Now would you rather rebuild your forum when its destroyed or would you rather wait the two weeks to use an ID again. If I were you, I'd wait the two weeks to reuse the ID.

I would contact Rose so she could revert it to a cutem date.

Rose? Who is Rose?

There is no Rose related to vF. And if something is deleted then it's removed from the database, however, if it's deleted with this system then it remains till you purge the database. {Smile}
