Auto-Ban System - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 3rd May 09 at 5:46am
I understand the complexity of this request and all the possible complications, so please bare with me on the ideals. What does everyone thing of some sort of Auto-Ban system? I've never seen anything like it before on any form of forum service to be honest, and it would be great. How i'd imagine it would work is a bot or sorts it setup and is programmed via an area within the admin panel, and it searches through data, and will add to the users warning and when it reaches a certain percent that user is banned, all the way up till 100% where the admin will get a PM asking the admin if he wants the user banned forever or deleted as well it would provide a list of everything that the user was warned for.
With that said i know what this would entail. It would be extremely server heavy because there would have to be a fully working bot system for each and every forum, and some of you would even say "its not needed just assign more staff" and maybe for smaller forums that would work, but i'm sorry for big forums its very hard to maintain a rule standard to any extent of how it should be maintained. Adding to that adding in something new to a service would surly make vF the idea forum service, bringing in more members, expending the vF name, and in the end it would leave a long possibilitiy of other self automated things that can be added. Though I understand somew people would say "it would be great as a paid feature." because yea it will be very server heavy and would require more servers in the end I about imagine, but the idea of a fully working auto-ban system would help out so many people and vF's uniquness massivly

The reason this has never been done is stated pretty clearly in the first sentence of your suggestion. The complexity would be so much more than it's worth; so many secondary factors would need to be analyzed when figuring out if something constitutes a warning...context being a major one.
Personally, I can't see this ever being added; even on huge forums, (for example the support forums for different message board providers) all matters requiring staff attention are usually taken care of in a timely fashion. If a staff member doesn't see it very soon, chances are that a member will report it. If there are no members around to report it, then no one's online to see the inappropriate content, so as far as everyone knows, it's not there (if a tree falls in the woods and no one's around to hear it...).

Well yea i understand, but i figured I might as well try. Truth be told I figured it would be a no, but in the end the idea is great, but any form of bot system would allow so much more expanding onto the forum system. As for the content setup, it can run off of the current censoring system, but modify it so it will add a select amount to the warning meter and stuff. Over all yes its complex, but after the base is setup it should be rather easy because it would mainly modifying
at least in theory

While I do agree that some form of a bot would be a great idea (if properly implemented), I feel it wouldn't be a very practical idea.
