I think it'd be good to have it so that you can choose to 'copy' a current group's permissions. eg, for creating a number of diffferent 'moderator' groups, instead of trying to remember what permissions you gave them just have the option to 'base permissions on a current group' or something.

This has now been implemented. There's an extra table when creating a group where you can select the group to duplicate.
