0# Post Coutn Not Saving IN Ranks - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 6th Dec 08 at 11:25am
OK this is the third time i'vce made a trhead on this is every time I fix it one more it me and it works and up up with no proof of this error:

http://digimondynamics.vforums.co.uk

The rank that is for the 0# Post count when setting up the ranks, always vanished, i've had this problem while i've use dthe forum and I dont know how many time I keep remaking the first rank until it sticks, well i've fixed it three times this time and it still keeps deleting the rank.

please fix it, i'm not going to fix it again, so maybe the error can be found.

Can you try re-typing that in a way which is understandable and makes it clear what the problem is? As to me none of that makes a word of sense.

Edit: I did try adding/modifying/removing ranks on your forum (I tried all 3 as I wasn't sure which is supposed to have a problem) and it all works fine for me.

OK basically to make it more clean, not matter what I put as the first rank. If the post to reach that rank is 0 then the rank disappears. I have seen it done on several forum, not just my own. {Tongue Out} hope that is clearer, but ok i'lla dd the rank again and see what happens

SO this is for the Members Ranks right?

If so then the post's cannot be 0 they have to be 1 for starters.

Like:
Rank Name
Posts Required
Rank Image
New Member
1
1|Yellow stars
Full Member
50
2|Yellow stars

and so on so forth. No Rank can have the number 0 in it. I learned that the hard way {Tongue Out} and as well with Ross's help.

ok so its not just me, the system doesn't like 0 post count for the Members Ranks, when it should be perfectly fine with it {Tongue Out}

Actually it is just fine with it {Smile} New members will still have 0 member when they join, and they will still have the "New Member" ranking.

This is how I have mine on Final Destiny:

You look at the image, and ask your self. "Why are there 2 ranks with Posts required with just 1 post only" you might say {Tongue Out}

Well that's simple. I have the New Member set as 1 as usual but I only let them have posting access on 1 board That would be The rules board. They have to post in that board. They gain 1 post out of that. They then become "Full Member" with that 1 post, they now have access to post on any board they want after that.

To me it sounds like a great Idea! {Smile}

glitchy a bit, but anyways, I have even seen the "New Member" ranking, without even being edited, vanish.

So this is the same thing as you have mentioned before? I have tried on many occasions and there is no reason that any rank would ever disappear. There is only 1 page which does anything to the ranks table and that is the manage ranks page. Therefore, the only sensible explanation is that the rank disappears when you (or a member of your staff) does something on that page - the only question is what that something is.

Regarding the "fix" about using a different number as the required posts, I do not see how that would help anything. I would suspect if anything is going wrong on the ranks page it's more to do with the index of that rank (its order as the first rank) rather than the number of posts it needs. The only reason that "fix" works is because the software is built to withstand user-errors (such as having a number of posts with no associated rank); in other words it fails to find the rank for members with 0 posts so uses whichever rank has the lowest post count requirement.

Well I make sure that I am the only one that has access to any of the ranks, but it does it when the page wasn't even gone to in a long time. But on the site I posted above, it happened before I even edited the ranks for the first time.
