vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Ross (admin) on 3rd Feb 10 at 2:11pm
Hi,

I'm looking for someone to put together a new ad banner, I get the feeling our current one is a little out of date {Tongue Out}
Image

Requirements

Colour Scheme: To match the vForums website (although I am open to other ideas)

Size: 728px x 90px

Text: The banner should include the name "vForums" and the tag line "Free Message Boards"
Other optional text can be added if there is room / it suits the design:
"Fully Customizable"
"Easy to Setup"
"Fun to Use"
or your own suggestions are welcome

The banner can be animated (if you wish) but should not be annoying {Wink}

If possible, I'd like to have an editable version so that I can update it when necessary.

Whoever completes this will be given ad-free and the opportunity to have their forum featured on the home page of the site.

Whats the font that was used in the logo image for both the site and forum? it help to match up is matching text was used as well

Ok I think I got something:

vf_banner

If you like that let me know I i'll finish it. I plan on add animation where it says Fully Customizable and have it fade in and out the other two text saying as well, I also can provide the non-compiled file, though not sure what programs can use a .pdn format other the Paint.Net

I asked Slip this a while ago: it's SF DIstant Galaxy.

Anyways, i might have a crack at this at some point, need to get back into designing a bit...almost forgotten what Photoshop looks like, been using Fireworks too much {Tongue Out}

That font very much sounds like something slip would choose.

I might give it another shot with an animation version but that's if I can find how to in photoshop, yes it's been that long. (I actually thought PS still had imageready)

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 5th Feb 10 at 4:19am
Would it be possible for an 88x31 banner as well? Ya know for affiliates and such. {Tongue Out} My site, will accept bigger banners, but only for business, and money. {Tongue Out}

I don't think I could design a new banner for a business, I'm not that good. {Tongue Out}

@ Andrew:
I'm not sure if the "Fully Customizable - ..." text looks a bit squashed together? Maybe a smaller font size for it? Or how about using either "Start your Community" or "Build your Community" as the text there and adding the others to the animated portion?
If you did that I'd suggest the animated text as:

"Easy to Setup", "Fully Customizable", "Full Template Control", "Frequent Updates", "Search Engine Friendly", "User Friendly", "Fun to Use"

@ blanka
Great banner. The background seems a little speckled or is that all part of the design? I find it hard to tell {Smile}

@ Dwight/Broken
Unfortunately it's not loading at the moment. But from what I can remember it uses Times New Roman, my least favourite font {Lips Sealed} {Tongue Out}

BTW. There's always the possibility of using more than one of the banners {Wink}

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 9th Feb 10 at 12:56am
I used a font called AngsanaUPC, but is quite close to Times New Roman now that i look at it {Unsure} , its ok, I was going to remove and remake the whole banner anyways, compared to everyone elses mines just dull

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 9th Feb 10 at 2:50am

Blanka's design is meant to be like that, he added a noise filter which makes it look speckled {Smile} Just thought id add that in

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By ElseAndrew (elseandrew) on 13th Feb 10 at 11:17am
If it goes any slow, it would be hard to switch from text/text smoothly.. I could just Text/cut/text But then it wouldn't blend nicely it would just cut from one quote to another quote.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 13th Feb 10 at 1:03pm
you can also add repeated frames to extend the time the images shows that text. Like show the images three times, have the first one fade in and the last one fade out, leaving the center on as the solid display of the text. Yes it means extra frames, but it does work.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By slip (slip) on 14th Feb 10 at 11:11am
this is interesting. maybe I could try my hand at a new advert banner as well.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 29th Mar 10 at 8:27pm
Seeing as how my computer is working properly *knock on wood* I'll make one. {Smile}

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 30th Mar 10 at 7:19pm
Well, I made one, and it renders well in Fx 3.6.2, IE8, Safari 4, Chrome, and Opera 10. {Smile}

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By webmaren (webmaren) on 3rd May 10 at 12:57am
If you're still taking submissions, I made one with a color scheme inverted from the website's. I also borrowed the logo, if that's not an issue.

One detractor is that the rounded corners will be uglified in IE6 because of PNG errors.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Ross (admin) on 3rd May 10 at 10:45pm
Thank you webmaren, I like it. We're still happy to see entries {Smile}

IE6 is on the way out, few new sites go out of their way to accommodate it now. Even big sites like Google have openly stopped supporting it.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 4th May 10 at 12:50am
Yes, but as one chapter closes another one opens as IE9 is going to be releases here very soon {Tongue Out}

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By webmaren (webmaren) on 4th May 10 at 8:36pm
It should be criminal for four versions of a browser to be in significant usage at the same time. Especially when one of them is IE6.

What do you guys think of the glows on my text? I am conflicted about keeping them.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By dog199200 (dog199200) on 4th May 10 at 9:18pm
I think the glowing into a light hue is to much, I think a simple border with very soft glow would look better.

Re: vForums Ad Banner - Posted By Ross (admin) on 6th Jun 10 at 10:46pm
A big thank you to all those who took part. I think all the entries were better than anything I could come up with {Tongue Out} {Smile}
