How do you rate a good designer? I've seen a lot of people on PB and other places that will almost only make sigs and banners. For me, that limits oneself a hell of a lot. It also makes me think if some of the "better" designers can actually tackle anything else, especially more print based work. It seems to be "sig this, avatar that" all the time.

Personally, i rarely do sigs as i just don't get the same enjoyment out of them. I prefer to make full skins or websites - i get a greater joy out of making something complete, rather than something smaller.

What's your opinion: what makes a good designer?

I think it really goes like you said on versatility, and not if they are just uber good at one thing. And it also depends on who the audience is. Where I live, I am like the only decent designer around therefore everyone thinks I am like the shit... Kinda sorry really...

I like doing things bigger than myself though, like group projects, the only issue is no one likes listening to a 14 year old o,o

I think being able to design other things: skins, LPs and anything else that someone might throw at them is what makes a good designer {Smile}

Well rounded designer. Someone that knows many different styles and different ways on doing things.

Anyone that could make money out of their art. So sig designers are not pro imo {Smile}

Anyone could make money out of art tbh. Great photo manipulators really inspire me tbh. They are tough to get right.

I think a good designer is a designer that has tried and succeeded at all types of designing that are capable of the program he/she uses. ( I don't expect a designer who can't get Cinema4D to make a 3D Render. ) But if they only use Photoshop they should be able to make signatures, avatars, layouts, large pieces, etc.

Its just the way I see a good designer. I guess because if someone is good at making signatures and signatures only they'd stand no chance in a large piece battle.

Depends what you mean by designer.

Common mist conception by today is that a designer means anything done in photoshop. Tags in fact fall under Art not Design. Interface and Web Layouts fall under design.

Very deep.

I have to go with Virt and tricky.cb on this one.
