You've seen it at other forum providers, now it's time for vForums to have one!
Our skin competition will work a little differently than others, however. Rather than just being made the default skin for the support forum, the 5 winning skins will be default templates for all vForums!
What we mean by this, is that when users register for a new forum, there will be a new step added. We will show thumbnails of all 5 skins where the user can choose which of these skins to use as their starting point, or to start from scratch.
So, if you want the world [or at least those on vForums] to know how well you can design, get a team together [or do it yourself], and design the best skin you possibly can!
If you would like to join the competition, please post below. Be sure to include the names of everyone in your team. Or if you have any questions about the competition then post below or send me a PM and we'll do our best to answer it.
Good luck to everyone, and happy new year!RULES
Entries Due: To be announced.
Extra Codes Allowed: Unlimited, provided they don't lag.
Crossbrowser: Must work in FF, IE, and Opera.
Entry Judging: Polls
Keep it Secret: Please do not tell others which skin you have made, and don't tell others if you know who created a certain skin. This is a skin competition, not a popularity contest about members.
hehe, can't wait to see some of the skins people put forward!
Wow, this really is innovational. I've never seen this on a Forum Host before..

Sarcasm?
I might give this a go, if i can get some inspiration. Is there a closing date?
cr0w will be posting such things shortly!
On all forums? Nice.
What about codes, can we add extra codes?
And, btw I'm probably in (will see if it's a team thing when you answer my question)

Yeah, you can add extra codes. It'll be up to Ross to put a limit on the number, though.
As far as I know, it has to be coded. I will be around in the code requests area if there are any codes that you need!
Also, it has to be CB in FF, IE AND Opera.

Actually, that wasn't sarcasm.
Is there a closing date?
Not yet. We'll see how much interest there is first.
What about codes, can we add extra codes?
Yes. There's no limit on the number of codes you can add as they'll proabably be merged/optimised before going live anyway. But so long as they don't create too much lag it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm defiantly in
Still need of finding a team though
Doesn't have to be a team, you can be alone!
I'm not good enough to make one alone, but I'm interested in this. If anyone wants to incorporate me into a team, I'd be happy.

Im here to help you if needed
I'm in for codes too so spam away in requests. Its fun to finally code something NON PB for a forum system XD
Go play with IPB or Vbulletin or PHPBB if you want that!
Done was boring cuz they abuse divs XD
Count me in!
I'm in! Hopefully I'll be able to get on photoshop before the due date or I'll have to do it all in css
im guessing were suppose to have a blank banner?
im guessing were suppose to have a blank banner?
Well, make one banner for vForums, and then also provide a blank one.
I'm in... Hopefully. *looks at wrighty* up to him if my entry makes it in.

No, he means I has to code it! >.>
Lol, sucks to be you then Wrighty.
i r b in k.
lol, but you told me you can't design!
I tell you a lot of things. Doesn't mean they're true.
I actually quite enjoy making skins.
Liar >.>
I will never ever believe you now... ever.......

Brilliant. Now I can move onto phase two of my brilliantly brilliant plan.

wazeefux? what about Netscape/Safari? i feel so left out...
They aren't majorly used at all...
those 3 that I mentioned are the most commonly used!
well I majorly use them all the time
You can count me in
im in
I think I am in.. depends if I can get my frikin tools working >.<
Yah i shall do it tooooos PM me if anyone else interested in teams

I know. Like Wrighty said, Hes my coder.
I'll help in installing codes and doing basic designs. I can do a bit of animation aswell.
Few questions
1) What are to be done with entries?
2) Should the admin name be set to "Admin" on the forum & with the email address hidden?
3) Should a test user be created? (if a forum has a different display for users & guests?)

2) Should the admin name be set to "Admin" on the forum & with the email address hidden?
3) Should a test user be created? (if a forum has a different display for users & guests?)
1) I'd say to a nominated member of staff.
2) I think so, it'll help with the judging process if there's no way to tell who the creator is. I'd also add no visible copyrights too.
3) That'd be a good idea, as long as it doesn't get abused too much.
2 - a copyright will be added to the forums in the future... so for now, just a blank one!
And yeah, I guess the nominated member of staff is cr0w!

Crow or I will be fine.
If needs be I can disable modifying of the test users profile (or something similar) to make sure it's not abused.
That would be appreciated Ross!
I could always submit it to myself!
(Or we could just have a list somewhere & I'll add it..) [I is only coding it! ]

The main abuse i was thinking of was any flaming, as technically everyone would have access to a profile. I highly doubt that would happen, but best to cover as many bases as possible.
I will Join, it will give me something do to, besides playing games ^_^, and I will be learning new things along the way.
I agree; until the voting is complete [there will likely be a few rounds of voting], there should be no recognizable evidence of who created what.
Now, I'm assuming the entries will be handled the same way as other competitions. Create a test forum where you will put up your skin, then PM either me and Ross your entry URL.
Copyrights can be added when you send the skin to me or Ross [if you win].
I'll enter if I can get a coder -_-
Not the best graphic maker but I'll give it a go =]
Codes can be gained from the coding area of the forum!
I'd love to join. Sign me up?

Just curious, are we permitted to do a whole-scale modification of it?
Such as how a few of us did on Xino? Or is that a bit too un-orthodox for an official support forum?

The final verdict on that is up to Ross, but in my eyes, support forums are supposed to be for the members; so shouldn't the skin be what the members like best, as well?
I think it'll be fine, but we'll see what Ross says.
I see no problem with it... the skin is going to be an alternative and also it'll be put as a default option for other forums that are registered. I think it would make it better if it came with modified features!

You can be as un-orthodox as you want. The skin won't be forced onto anyone so they can choose not to use it if they don't like it
W00t.
PB's goin' doooooown. *metalhead*
Can we have a rough estimated of when the entries are due because I'd like to know if I should get started or not
31st January. However, if people are ready before then, and have them all in I'm sure the voting will start before !:)

Hooray for breakdowns in communication
Lol, don't set a date till updates are done, if head/base everywhere is used, IC remodels, mini-profile remodles and such come into use then it will drastically reduce the coding time. I'm not even sure if Ross will add a post splitter XD so theirs a lot to be said.

That's what I was thinking; once the next large update involving suggestions is added, then we'll come up with a date.
Erm, not a lot of people use Safari, and even less people use Netscape, so it isn't a big issue.
But common knowledge states that to be cross browser, it should work in all the browsers.
I use Safari to check any site issues Thing with a project like this is it pretty much has to work in all browsers i guess.
I'm in wheeeeee
oh noez, i thought you were awayI'm in wheeeeee
I was - now I'm back
Now to bug Dreggie

Woah, wtf was that post in relation to? O_o
*Musta been high or something*
I'm gunna make a layout for the forum I'm making, will I be able to submit that layout in?
Tricky, wouldn't that be a bit pointless, since if you win one of the top places, it'll be a default option anyway?
Lowercase t! D:

Then it wouldn't be proper sentence structure!
deadline yet?
deadline yet?
We're still missing one of the templating features meaning most won't be able to customize the info center. Once that's done, we can set a deadline. I'm wanting some high quality entries though so we'll need to give everyone long enough to complete their entry to the best of the abilities
Gah, I should really start on this before it gets too late. <.<
I will be able to do more, in a few days, I am getting my laptop Wednesday, so I will be having PS CS3, and at which I can do better Graphics.

Having CS3 doesn't necessarily make you better I actually miss my copy of CS2
Anyway, i might make a layout if i can get some inspiration, but there's some stiff competition!
No, but it will help me out with Transparent, as PS 7.0 doesn't work, and Paint Shop Pro 9, wont either for Trans.

Actually, tricky is a proper noun, and therefore, it is grammatically correct to start the sentence with the lowercase t.

That's a new one. I always knew that correct English dictates that sentences begin with an uppercase alphabet universally.
count me in
is there a limit to how many skins each person can enter?
I don't think there is any limit at the moment. but I think submitting 500 skins is silly. So be sensible...Perhaps 2 or 3 max.

Agreed. We don't want to be spammed by users submitting 100s of templates, we'd rather there be fewer higher quality entries
I have 2, one called Darkmage Skin, and another Alternative.
But thats all I am revealing ^_^

Only when the proper noun has no specification of capitalization attached to it, which is usually the case.
Think about it this way- we're always taught that words in the middle of a sentence are lowercase, unless they're proper nouns, like California. The word has a capitalization associated with it, and so we use that capitalization, giving it priority over the sentence's grammatical requirements. tricky has specified a lowercase 't', and so that gets precedence over the sentence's need to start with a capital letter.

Arty..... you like english too much O_O
Now that the infocenter modelling is possible, will there be a deadline?
**can't wait to start**
Yes a deadline will be announced very shortly... it'll probably be roughly end of Jan/start of Feb I would have thought...
That's up to Ross, but I'm guessing he'll make one now that the most recent update's been done.
A whole month should be given out definitely
And I am thinking of entering two templates. I already have dreggie for one. I need another coder for the second
*cough*
I has nothing to do!
**cough cough ok then**

I think Valentine's Day should be a good deadline.
But we'll see what Ross says.
When's valentines day? O.o
