When listening to music, how important are the lyics to you? Are you think kind that disregard the lyrics completely, or seek out the songs based on their lyrical competance?
What are your favourite song lyrics? Feel free to post them up, but if they are really long then a link might be better![]()
To me, lyrics are vital - a lot of the music i listen to has a strong sense of lyrical insight to them, and artists such as Bright Eyes, while not always musically brilliant, the lyrics are insightful, thought provoking and sometimes worrying.
There is one section of lyrics in my sig currently, from the song Easy Way Out by the late Elliott Smith. He's an artist that regularly came up with glorious lyrical compositions.
O thats one thing I love about Country Music. The songs are often written such that they tell a story. Lyrics are really important. No matter what a song sounds like, cheesy lyrics are always a downer![]()
Cheesiest song ever written: "My Humps" by Black Eyed Peas. I laughed so hard on hearing this song. I laughed harder when it was awarded with a Grammy. >.<
O thats one thing I love about Country Music. The songs are often written such that they tell a story.
That's one of the reasons why i love The Decemberists - each song is a story, with a theme, characters and all set to wonderful, folk-indie music. Especially The Mariner's Revenge Song - clocks in at over 9 minutes but it's a wonderful tale![]()
I like some Lyrical gist that comes with the hits, you know, the kind that bash your mind, make you feel on the inside. Sorry.. made up some rhyme, and that's all my time
Lyrical competence is a primary factor for me when listening to music. However, so is the melody to go along with the lyrics. I always tend to lean toward the songs that relate to my life. Not just the lyrics, but also the mood of the melody.
I don't want a heavy, upbeat, loud song for when I'm feeling down; I want a melancholy, somewhat slow, lyrically competent Alternative Rock song that helps me cope with how I'm feeling.
