Web hosting! - Posted By Nick (nickb) on 17th Dec 10 at 3:16am
So within the next several days I will become a web host! {Grin} I just need to get a few kinks worked about, and a new design created, then my site will be fully operational! {Grin} I can't wait, and I kept it in my 'i' family. {Tongue Out} iCodes, iDirectory, iDesign, and now iHosting. {Tongue Out} and no, it's not apart of the Apple name, I'd probably get sued if it were. {Tongue Out}

So what independent (or Job related) work do you have currently?

Web hosting's fun, but it can be very time consuming; I've done reseller hosting in the past and also co-founded a small-scale web hosting company a few years back that eventually got shut down due to neither myself nor my partner having the time we needed to put into it. I might consider it again at some point in the future, but like I said, it is something that requires a lot of time and effort.

As for current work, I work full-time as the CTO/CIO of a company that owns a chain of online retail stores. In terms of independent work, I'm currently doing a few freelance web development jobs (the biggest of which would be a business website for an accounting firm) and also working as an on-call service technician for a company my friend works for -- this is just temporary, though, since Christmas is their busiest season and they needed an extra hand.

Soo yeah, I've been keeping myself fairly busy. {Smile}

My job keeps me busy enough {Tongue Out} I'm an account/project manager for a web and graphic design agency - it's my job to make sure that the projects run smoothly and to time and budget - the designers (if i'm not doing it myself) are getting the work done, training the clients on the systems, etc.
Also, it's my job to look after all new sales into the business, farming the projects out to the other colleagues dependent on the particulars of the client (so if it's purely a graphic design job, whether they require marketing services/SEO/copywriting etc.).

Once all that's done, i don't want to do much else {Tongue Out}

Today is when I got my account details, and I already moved iDirectory over to my host. (It feels good to say that. {Smile} ) Not getting much business yet, but hey, it's brand new, only been online for a few hours. {Tongue Out}

@ Marc - Nice, making that extra cash is really good especially around this time of year. {Smile}

@ Graham - I remember you saying that in another thread down below.

It seems as everyone is doing what they love, or at least earning that money.

I also realize there are many P2H or just free hosting, available. But it's something I want to do. Ya can't have to much of web hosts really, there will/always be more available. {Tongue Out}

I have a large reseller, and have for a bit. Thanks to Michael, I found a great new host as my last one had some server issues that the server host acted like "they did not really exist".

I host several websites for different people. I mainly host websites for registered non-profit organizations now. One pulled their website, due to them not having time for internet activities and that it was unused. I also host for some friends. I offer free hosting for entertainment, student, or art (including design). I don't have many yet, but I have paid for my host several months in advance. It's paid through until February 2012 currently, I believe, with BigWetFish.

I am not good with tech issues, basically, my host is, it works, and if you can do it on your own you can. It is just mainly a place folks use to store files or do temporary projects. I have had a few folks whom been with me for well over a year.

I will allow new hostees, if they so request it via my request form. I have a high acceptance rate.

So yeah. haha. xD

What was that host?

And would it be advertising if I said my host? xD Either it's advertising, or suggesting host. >.< It's both! {Grin}
