So for those of you who have been here for a while, you'll know that for the past 6 months or so I've been working at a retail company as an In-Store Technician / Web Developer.
Well, earlier this week the head of the tech department quit on account of having numerous other (better paying) job offers on the table, and I'm the next in line for the position.
So what does that mean? Well it means that I'm now an 18 year-old Chief Technology Officer (CTO), haha.![]()
However, as awesome as that is, it's also pretty scary considering I know almost nothing of the system's backend, nor am I overly skilled in Django yet. The current CTO is leaving on the 27th of October, so that means that I have under 3 weeks to pretty much become fluent in this programming language, as well as immerse myself in the core systems so that nothing explodes when the CTO duties are officially handed over to me, haha.
Just thought you'd all like to know!![]()
P.S. I just realized that this is going to look awesome on my future job applications; "Work History -- Well, I became CTO of a company at the age of 18..."![]()
CongratsAnd here was me thinking that reaching the level of "Technical Director" by 22 was an achievement
![]()
Does that put you in charge of other stuff/other people or are you solely responsible for their web/IT systems?
Congrats Marc!![]()
For me I recently became a staff of a Web host.I take care of the abusers!
![]()
Though I'm working for free. But no complaints.
![]()
Well done Marc! Certainly dwarfs my achievement of being a project manager by 25![]()
I achieved being me by the age of 0!![]()
Beats you all!![]()
I congratulated you on MSN when you got the news, but hey-ho ... Congrats! Now go learn Django
![]()
Haha, thanks guys.![]()
@Ross - At the moment there are two other techies, but we're currently on the hunt for one more to take over my previous duties. As far as new duties are concerned, I'm now responsible for the bulk of the coding for the websites (whether that be me doing it or assigning things to others), most of the company's marketing, backups, server/network maintenance, etc.
@darkmage - Well, you've gotta start somewhere, right? Now you've got more experience to put on your resume.![]()
@Graham - Haha, but you're Grahamy, so you win by default.![]()
@Michael - As I said to you on MSN, this is going to be a very stressful 3 weeks.![]()

Have not had any abusers, and of course it is a new host. with only 3 clients (plus me) So yeah. The owner doesn't want it posted anywhere as of yet as he is working things out, but he allowed me to add him to my site, if you go to my site, click on sponsors, and it's the 3rd one down.

Oh wow, an eighteen year old CTO? That is freaken amazing man! I meant a few of them, and man they're amazingly super smart people! So that must mean you are one too.
Eighteen? For some reason I thought you were older Marc.![]()

a .tk on a hosting site?
Yeah, i thought that - not the most trusted TLD in the world![]()
Aye, but it's legit. It works, and I have had no problems.
I'm quite happier with this host than I was with OrangeServe.

And yeah, people tell me a lot that they think I'm older; dunno why.![]()
@darkmage - Yeah, to be honest when I checked that link the first thing I did was view the source to see where the frame led...then I was confused because there was no frame.![]()
Lol, Yeah I know. He said he can't buy a TLD, not sure why though.
Lol, Yeah I know. He said he can't buy a TLD, not sure why though.
.tk is a TLD![]()
But it's free.![]()
I still wouldn't want to have a host that has a .tk. not that i need a webhost at this very moment in time

I think you or him are getting your terms mixed up herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T
LD
Getting your own TLD (as in http://name.YOURNAME ) probably nearly impossible... which seems to be what you said with your post... though I'm guessing you meant something different...
Yes, he said he can not get .com, or anything else. I'm not sure why. But I'm still happy with this host.
