Unfortunately this doesn't apply to those of you over in the UK, but Google recently launched a feature in Gmail that lets you call phones for free anywhere in US & Canada (with low international rates) right from your browser. I've tried it out a few times, and I think it's fantastic -- good quality, good volume, easy-to-use.
So for those of you in Canada & the states...try it out!![]()

Google Voice has been around for awhile hasn't it? I added in my iPod's phone number, they called it, but it wouldn't work, because the phone number is only for texting currently.![]()
so punching in the 2 numbers didn't verify it. xD
So if I make a number for Canada, then I can call any Canadian for free? or how does that work?
I believe I can use it from here in the UK to call anyone in the US/Canada for free![]()

Google Voice was a way for people to have one phone number for their various phones, but from what I've heard it was a failed project. The new Google Voice was released three days ago and allows you to make calls from your browser to actual phones.![]()
You don't make a number with this one, since you can't receive calls -- you simply place them right from your browser to other peoples' phones. All the numbers that the feature uses are based in California, which is where Google is.
@Ross - Just because it's free now doesn't mean you can call me at 3am.![]()
Then why could I choose my own number from that link?
I saw this, living in New Zealand, not sure if it works....
