Free Online Services - Posted By Graham (amusedtodeath) on 4th Nov 09 at 1:06am
I was thinking about this at work, while sifting through a raft of anchor points for a clients website (oh, how fun {Tongue Out} )

What free services do you use and recommend online? They can be anything, ranging from image editors, file/image hosting, games etc. If its free and you've found a practical use for it, then list it! {Cheesy}

If there's enough and i have enough time, i might compile them all into one big list.

Back when I was first learning image editing I used a free online site called Lunapic - http://lunapic.com

For online games;

http://freegames.com

http://gamefudge.com

http://omgpop.com

There's this forum software I use quite a bit. Completely free and it has some great features..... {Tongue Out}

A little more seriously though, I highly recommend the GIMP image editor. I use it for a lot of my simple image editing tasks.

Another piece of a free software I use a lot is Notepad 2. I used to use a good, free, FTP client too but since that's no longer free they no longer get a mention here {Tongue Out}

Notepad 2? What is that, just an upgraded Notepad?

Yeah, it's like Notepad but with extras such as code highlighting, brace matching, indentation guides etc. Really useful for anyone who works with a lot of code but doesn't want the overhead associated with most editors.

I use Notepad++, and Ross, you talking about SmartFTP?

Re: Free Online Services - Posted By Ross (admin) on 15th Nov 09 at 10:16pm
Yeah, SmartFTP was the best free FTP program. It's probably still one of the best paid ones too. After they removed their free version I tried quite a few others but none really suited my ways of working.

well FileZilla isn't the greatest FTP client but it is better then nothing, and i haven't had any problems with it.

I use FileZilla for sites, but am currently running SmartFTP trial for another server that I use... mainly as a test to see what it's like. It has the best resume feature out of all of them! {Smile}

Another great free online server would be ThunderBird, it works great as a email client for those that don't like using the default ones or if one isn't provided with your webhost.
