My mom took me to a guitar store today and let me purchase a guitar. I got one that is very similar to my bass, but it's soo much betterI'll probably have a picture or two of it up later also.
So far I've learned to play a part of the solo from 'Folsom Prison Blues', the begining of 'Smoke on the Water' some of 'Stairway to Heaven' and the begining of 'Sunshine of Your Love.'
I'm so used to playing bass, since I've done that for the past year every morning so it's a bit weird for me. The strings aren't as far apart as they are on the bass so I find myself missing a string every now and thenI also never really had to do any real chords on bass, everything came with one finger
So it's taking some time to get used to.
Anyone else play instruments, just got one, etc.?
What type of guitar is it? Electric or acoustic?![]()
I have an electric as well as an acoustic; been playing since grade 7.
If you'd like I can scan in and send you a copy of the chord diagram pages from my guitar class?![]()
It's an electric guitar. I have a bunch of sheets full of chords, it's just putting them together. If I sit there and think about it I can get them and get the right sound eventually, but I wont be able to put them together quick enough for a real piece of music.
Like for example, the song 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash, I've got every chord down. I get get the right chord out when it's called for, but I can't play it fast enough to get it sound like the real song.
I just want to learn a few songs at the moment. I can play parts of songs, but nothing over 30 seconds long![]()
If it's changing the chords and getting them sounding well at a reasonable pace, I could send you some chord progression sheets as well as some basic songs that help teach quick chord changing?![]()
Now that would be extremely helpfulYes, please

I'll get them scanned in a bit later for you.![]()
Thanks Marc![]()
I'm jealous - i want a new guitar!![]()
I've got a Crafter acoustic guitar - it's a bit cheap but it does the job good enough for me. I play the drums more and that's my main passion.
I'd love to play drums, but I feel more of a leader and that's what guitar pretty much is in a band. All the instruments are important for a good sound, but guitar almost always has the main parts.
I was unable to take any pictures of my guitar and myself today so I'll just link you all to the stock photo of the pack I bought.

I wasn't aware that Ibanez sold starter packs; nice find.![]()
Personally, I enjoy playing drums just as much as guitar; I just focus more on guitar because it's easier, takes up less space, is cheaper, and I'm better at it than drums.![]()
Can i have it?.
I am going to ask if i can also get one.![]()

That they do. My bass was a starter pack from Ibanez as well.
Congrats on new Guitar, not much of an instrument person myself, but its cool I guess. Even though I am not an Instrument person I still play Rock Band, but thats a whole different topic.
Oh yeah i also have a guitar. Guitar hero!
I was going to say it's not that different for a minute, but then I thought about it. I'm pretty good at Rock Band/Guitar Hero so picking up the guitar for the first time I thought 'HEY! I'm going to try at a solo!' I played something and it really didn't sound that great.

. I don't really think that guitar hero and a real guitar have similarities. I was just kidding.

Apparently if you're a shredder then it's reasonably helpful, but if you're going for something more..."melodic" then it's as much use as a chocolate teapot![]()
I got some tabs for the song 'Walk the Line' by Johnny Cash, it's not the full song, and listening to it by ear it's not 100% correct, but it sounds pretty goodI've got that pretty much 100% down.

You have to remember though that recorded songs have been edited for better quality [noise removal, sharpening, etc.] so playing it live will never sound exactly the same.![]()
