Does avg slow my computer down? {Confused}

Re: AVG - Posted By Graham (amusedtodeath) on 13th Apr 08 at 10:48pm
...how can we answer that? {Tongue Out}

It might slow down if you're doing a scan as it uses up resources, but otherwise it should sit quietly in the background doing it's business.

It doesn't slow it as much as something like Norton.

This is how I explain it to people:

Your computer is like a person. Anti-virus software is like a bullet-proof vest. The internet is like Baghdad. Will it slow you down? Yes. Would you walk through Baghdad without a bullet-proof vest? No.

It does to an extent as it will begin to use up 'RAM' as well as any other program running. I use a program called 'SmartClose' and I run it right before I start World of Warcraft. SmartClose closes every non critical application on Windows, pretty nifty. AVG, I'd recommend it as a wonderful virus software, I pay for them now. :].

I've never myself paid for a virus software program, but my mom has. Programs that actually didn't compare with AVG in my opinion. I downloaded AVG not too long ago, and the only problem I've seen is that it does a lot of updates.

I don't like to buy virus software {Unsure}

Then get AVG. Go by Mithras description of it. Yeah it's going to slow you down, but you'll want it.

Norton is a bullet proof house. That you have to carry round, thus making you incredibly slow! {Tongue Out}

We get Norton free from our Provider {Grin} . I also have a free virus scanner on my Jump drive, were I can scan the computer as well, I found 2 Trojans, and 2 backdoors, on our computer that Norton Failed to see, and now our computer runs a bit faster, and as well we got more memory back {Grin}

I had Norton once.. I just don't like it at all. I also had McCaffe or w/e it's called. Shittiest program ever. That thing will pop windows up over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. You can downloaded a program, and give it access from the computer, but then it needs it from McCaffe. I hated it.

I don't see how constantly getting new virus definitions that keep your computer safe is a problem? {Tongue Out}

Re: AVG - Posted By tricky.cb (crazyblue) on 16th Apr 08 at 11:54pm
It's not that. It was stuff popping up like blah blah blah needs blah blah blah, which would be obvious because that's what the program does.

Ex: ( Although I don't remember it happening. )
McCaffe needs allowance of Firefox to use the internet. Or better worded.

McAfee's SiteAdvisor isn't the greatest, either. Many Proboards servers come up as dangerous and are blacklisted, as well as sites I often visit that have nothing dangerous or bad about them. {Unsure}
